This article is about the bonus games in Kirby's Dream Land 2. For the block challenge in Kirby's Block Ball which is also called "Bonus Chance", see its Additional scoring section.

Bonus Chance is a term for the Sub-Games that can be played with the Bosses in Kirby's Dream Land 2. Completing these Sub-Games perfectly is a requirement for 100% completion of the game.

Each Boss - except for the boss of Dark Castle - provides a bonus chance, which Kirby can play after defeating them by re-entering their doors. Each bonus chance is different, though all of them have the goal of collecting 14 Small Stars, and completing or failing them will cause the door to the boss to close until the player completes any stage.

Like other Sub-Games, points or 1-Ups are awarded for completing Bonus Chances, with 1-Ups being awarded for a 'perfect' performance (collecting all the Small Stars), in addition to the 1-Ups acquired by gathering Small Stars. A Bonus Chance ends early if Kirby is hit at any point during the game.

After obtaining 100% completion, the OPTIONS menu can be accessed, which offers an option to play all Bonus Chance sequences in a row. Completing this mode yields the player with a victory screen, which displays a message and some characters depending on how many Small Stars where obtained.
Obtaining all 84 Small Stars displays an image with Kirby grabbing the Rainbow Sword while mounting Rick, with Kine, Coo, Gooey and Girl blob/Chao accompanying them.

Bonus Chances by Boss[edit]

Whispy Woods[edit]

Whispy Woods offers the first Bonus Chance after he is defeated in Grass Land. Kirby (and his animal friend if he has one) is positioned to the left on a flat field, with Whispy to the right. Whispy takes turns alternately spitting out either Small Stars or Apples at Kirby. Kirby is tasked to collect the stars and either avoid or depose of the apples.

Nruff and Nelly[edit]

Nruff and Nelly offer the second Bonus Chance after they are defeated in Big Forest. Kirby (and his animal friend if he has one) is positioned in the middle of the three-tiered arena, as the game begins. Nellys run out of the holes in the sides of the trunks, while small stars follow a similar trajectory.

Sweet Stuff[edit]

Sweet Stuff offers the third Bonus Chance after it is defeated in Ripple Field. Kirby (and preferably Kine) is tasked with swimming through the underwater tunnel, nabbing stars and avoiding Gordos along the way.

Ice Dragon[edit]

In this Bonus Chance, accessible after defeating Ice Dragon in Iceberg, Kirby is tasked with collecting the falling stars while avoiding the Icicles.

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright offer the fifth Bonus Chance after they are defeated in Red Canyon. Kirby is tasked with collecting stars from Mr. Bright while avoiding both Mr. Shine's bounding about and Mr. Bright's projectiles.

Kracko[edit]

The sixth bonus chance is made available after Kracko is defeated in Cloudy Park. Here, Kirby is tasked with collecting stars that shoot out of the cloud floor, while avoiding Co-Krackos doing the same.

  • 3DS Virtual Console manual bio: "If you enter a boss stage that you've already cleared, a Bonus Chance stage will begin. In a Bonus Chance stage, you face the boss again and can collect small stars. Bonus Chance stages end when you take damage or when a set amount of time has passed (whichever comes first)."
