"Ripple Field: Stage Select"[Japanese title] is a stage select theme from Kirby's Dream Land 3, and was composed by Jun Ishikawa.
Composition
"Ripple Field: Stage Select" shares many common features between the stage select themes of Kirby's Dream Land 3: 150 BPM, a swing beat in 4/4, and a sweet, happy tune attached. Ripple Field's version of the stage select theme makes extreme use of the blown bottle and pan flute instruments, two key instruments that define the sound atmosphere of Kirby's Dream Land 3. It is a very short stage select theme, with a full loop completed in under 30 seconds. The second half of this loop is almost identical to the second half of two other stage select themes, "Grass Land: Stage Select" and "Cloudy Park: Stage Select".
Game appearances
Kirby's Dream Land 3
In this theme's origin game - Kirby's Dream Land 3 - this theme appears as a short, simple, and sweet stage select theme for the level hub of Ripple Field.
Kirby Star Allies
In Kirby Star Allies, a short jingle based on the Ripple Field: Stage Select theme is used whenever Gooey appears as a Dream Friend. In addition, the original version of the theme is used for Gooey's pseudo-HAL room in Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!.
This jingle can also be found on Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack under the name "ひょっこりグーイ!" (Unexpectedly, Gooey!).
Trivia
- Initially, the version of this theme used for Gooey's special room in Kirby Star Allies was labelled "Grass Land: Stage Select" on the Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack release. Eventually, this mistake was noticed, and replacement copies were issued.
- The stage select themes for Grass Land, Ripple Field, and Cloudy Park share a similar passage in the latter half of their tracks. All three of these are locations Kirby happened to visit in his previous adventure. However, Iceberg is also a location visited in both games, and it does not share this feature.
