"Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is the musical piece associated with Magolor. It debuted alongside him in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and often reappears as his leitmotif in later games. The theme was composed by Hirokazu Ando.

Composition

Magolor conversates with Kirby inside the Starcutter.

"Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is a chipper tune that is normally set in D major, 4/4 time, with a time signature of around 150 beats per minute. It features the distinctive "oompah" rhythm associated with polkas, emphasizing the off beats; this is reflected in its instrumentation, which prominently features electric bass, piano, and flute, as well as synth embellishments. It also happens to quote "A New Wind for Tomorrow" just before the loop point.

Game appearances

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" plays in the interior of the Lor Starcutter, as well as the main menu (prior to clearing Story Mode, which changes the music).

It also appears as a motif throughout the other tracks of the game:

• "The Lor Starcutter Reborn" — Theme for the cutscene with the same name, borrows elements from "Lor Restored!".
• "VS Mecha Kawasaki" — a Scope Shot theme. Elements of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" are incorporated in transitional parts.
• "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" — The final boss theme against Magolor's second form and Magolor Soul. Features a dramatic version of the second section of the theme as its intro, its motif inverted for the melody, and the motif proper appearing in later sections in minor keys.
• Cutscene themes: "A Visitor from Afar", "Halcandra: A New Enemy", "Let Me Explain Everything" (paired with "Four Adventurers: Cookie Country" in a dialogue), "Each to His Own World" (mirroring the start of "A Visitor from Afar"), "Return to Dream Land" (at various points with increasing length and role, frequently combined with "The Adventure Begins").

In the remake, the theme also receives several new rearrangements and uses as a motif:

• "WELCOME TO MAGOLAND!" — The primary hub theme for Merry Magoland, a triumphant and rhythmically loose arrangement with an intro and predominantly major harmonies in the fourth section.
• "Magolor's Tome Trackers" (and its Secret Song) — Theme for the majority of Magolor's Tome Trackers, a ragtime arrangement.
• "Magolor's Dizzy-Tizzy Tome Trackers" (and its Secret Song) — Theme for the Last Chance in Magolor's Tome Trackers, a faster variant of the above.
• "Magoland Results" (and its Secret Song) — The results theme for most Merry Magoland games (except Checkerboard Chase and Ninja Dojo). A looser arrangement based on "WELCOME TO MAGOLAND!"
• "Judgment of the Malus Pumila" — Main motif of Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler, features fragments of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" in all sections.
• "Green Winds Remix" — Aerogree Dimension's stage theme, a medley of "Woods Wayfarer" and "Beyond the Hill" with the motif of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" in between.
• "Hot! Elemental Boss Battle" — Magolor Epilogue boss theme, an arrangemnt of "Blazing! Boss Battle" with "Judgment of the Malus Pumila" and "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" preceding its climax.
• "Found a Fruit Fragment!" — Jingle upon collecting a Fruit Fragment, rising variant of thr motif.
• "The Shape of a Heart" (from Kirby Star Allies) — Stage results theme for Magolor Epilogue.
• "Onward to a Pain My Heart Knows Well" — Locandra Dimension stage theme, an arrangement of "Judgment of the Malus Pumila" with heavy use of "Road to Victory" and "A Visitor from Afar", as well as minor fragments of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler".
• "Mistilteinn, Tree Crown without a Ruler" — Boss theme against the Master Crown, includes the second section in the context of "C-R-O-W-N-E-D", as well as the main motif paired with "Ordeal" after the "Port Village" segment.
• "Settling a Score - Atone for One's Misdeeds!" — Theme for the quick time event when Magolor strikes the Master Crown with his Ultra Sword, has "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" buried under the second section of "Welcome Your New Overlord".
• "Crossing into the Parallel with You" — Magolor Epilogue staff credits theme, includes "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" in its place in "Judgment of the Malus Pumila" and the following "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" as well as in the transition from minor to major motifs alongside "Road to Victory", in the modulating transition to "Town".
• "Interdimensional Traveler" (from Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition) — Plays in the first few sections of the Extra Stage in Locandra Dimension.
• "INTERNAL STRUGGLE" — Music preceding the Magolor Soul battle in The True Arena, primarily based on "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" while using an eerie quotation of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler".
• "The Merry, Magical World of Magolor!" — Music for Merry Magoland after all the missions are complete. Medley consisting of an extended version of "WELCOME TO MAGOLAND", "Return to Dream Land" and various Sub-Game themes.

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

Two new versions of the theme appear in this game, both in the New Challenge Stages Sub-Game. The first is titled もっとチャレンジステージ (New Challenge Stages) on the Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack album, and plays on the New Challenge Stages title screen and during the first two races with Magolor. This variation uses entirely synthetic instrumentation and a more syncopated rhythm, and was done by Hirokazu Ando.

The other variation is titled "Interdimensional Traveler" (or "Distant Traveler") in English and 異空いくうヲカケル旅人たびびと (The Traveler Across Another Dimension) in Japanese. It plays during Magolor Race 3 and Magolor Race EX. This variation is set in a faster tempo and a minor key, but has similar synthetic instrumentation other than including an electric guitar.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

The "Interdimensional Traveler" variation reappears in Kirby: Triple Deluxe as the theme of the Distant Traveler stage in Dedede's Drum Dash; its fast-paced rhythm makes it suitably difficult. Additionally, the "New Challenge Stages" variant can be heard in Stage 6 of Fine Fields. Finally, the menu theme from Kirby's Return to Dream Land is used as the theme for the Copy Ability Room.

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe

An acoustic arrangement of "Interdimensional Traveler" featuring melodica and ukelele is used as the staff credits theme upon clearing all of the secret stages. This arrangement actually debuted as part of the track "Dededeluxe!" on the Kirby: Triple Deluxe Soundtrack, where it formed a medley with the other Dedede's Drum Dash stage themes. It reappears in Kirby: Planet Robobot in The True Arena, playing during the Mid-Boss All-Stars 1 fight.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe / Super Kirby Clash

Another acoustic arrangement of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is used while speaking to him at his shoppe in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. It uses guitars as its primary instruments, particularly ukelele and mandolin, accompanied by marimba and plucked strings. It reappears in Super Kirby Clash, unaltered and filling the same purpose.

Kirby Star Allies

The original version reappears in Kirby Star Allies as the puzzle room theme for Extra Planet β and Extra Planet γ.

A short jingle based on "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is used as Magolor's Dream Friend jingle, which is titled ブラボー！マホロアがキテアゲタヨォ (Bravo! Magolor Has Come) on the official soundtrack. The theme's title uses Magolor's katakana-based speaking style. This arrangement was done by Yuuta Ogasawara.

The Celebration Picture "The Shape of a Heart" features a fuller arrangement of the theme. It uses a slower tempo and gentle instrumentation, featuring a leading acoustic piano backed by Rhodes piano and acoustic bass. This arrangement was done by Hirokazu Ando.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

Both "New Challenge Stages" and the original version of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" can be unlocked for potential use in races and Free Rolling, the former unlocked at Gourmet Rank 78 and named Kirby's Dream Collection: Memorial Song 1, the latter unlocked at Gourmet Rank 81 and named Kirby's Return to Dream Land: Memorial Song 2 in the American English version and Kirby's Adventure Wii: Memorial Song 2 in the British English version.

Other appearances

A rearrangement of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is included as part of the track ボーナストラック：4人の仲間と彼方からの旅人 (Bonus Track: Four Adventurers and the Far-Flung Traveler) on the Kirby Wii Music Selection album.

The Kirby: Triple Deluxe Soundtrack album includes a track called "Dededeluxe!", which is a medley that consists of all four themes in Dedede's Drum Dash. The fourth theme, however, instead of being the in-game version of "Distant Traveler", it is a completely new remix of it. This remix was later featured in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot.

For the Kirby Memorial Arrangements album, a full big band ensemble was assembled to record exclusive arrangements. One, titled "I'll Never Forget You", is a medley of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" and "Memories (I'll Never Forget You)". It was arranged by Shogo Sakai and extended to include solos for alto saxophone, trombone, and trumpet.

A gentle waltz (3/4 time) arrangement is incorporated in the track マリオネットキッチン (Marionette Kitchen) on the album The Sound of Kirby Café 2, where it is combined into a medley with "Vs. Marx". It was arranged by Megumi Ohara.

The "WELCOME TO MAGOLAND!" version of the theme is paired with "Booming Blasters" to serve as the music track for when 50 players remain in the Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe Maximus Cup for Tetris 99.

The Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe version of "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is featured in an officially licensed collection of Kirby sheet music published by Yamaha Corporation. The Return to Dream Land Deluxe version of "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" also appears in the same collection.
