Holo Defense API
| ||||||||||
|
“ | The holographic security system that defends this area from intruders. It analyzes past battle data and produces one holographic security guard after another. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description |
Holo Defense API is a Boss that made its debut in Kirby: Planet Robobot, appearing as the boss of Resolution Road. It somewhat resembles Pix from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, but consists of four diamonds rather than just three, and also uses a floating gear as a platform to seat itself on.
Game Appearances
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Holo Defense API is the boss of Resolution Road, fighting Kirby inside one of the Haltmann Works Company laboratories. It creates green, holographic versions of other bosses to battle Kirby with. These holograms have much less stamina than their real counterparts, and only fight in one phase. Each time a hologram is defeated, one of the diamonds on the API shatters.
Boss Fight
The following lists all of the API's attacks in Kirby: Planet Robobot. Attacks in italics are only used by API 2.0.
Phase 1
Holo-Kracko
“ | This hologram was created by analyzing data of the cloud monster who is believed to have inhabited the sky of this plane since ancient times. It excels at electrical attacks charged by the atmosphere. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description |
“ | They further analyzed the data of the cloud monster and discovered even more vicious attacks. The system redesign has implemented these attacks and made Holo-Kracko even more powerful. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description (2.0) |
Holo-Kracko uses attacks similar to the first phase of its Kirby: Triple Deluxe incarnation. Its 2.0 iteration uses the design of Kracko's Revenge.
Attacks - Holo-Kracko | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Summon Minion | Holo-Kracko shakes itself and drops a Waddle Doo into the arena, which can be swallowed for the Beam ability. 2.0 also causes various bits of debris to fall from it.
|
Star Beam | Holo-Kracko turns grey and unleashes a swirl of blue beams that spiral around itself for a short time.
|
Dive | Holo-Kracko dives across the stage, in a maneuver that can be difficult to dodge. It can do this in a few different ways.
|
Rain Storm | Holo-Kracko charges up and delivers a torrent of rain below itself.
|
Lightning Storm | Holo-Kracko charges up and unleashes a flurry of lightning bolts below it as it travels slowly across the stage.
|
Holo-Doomers
“ | A hologram of monsters nested in another dimension. The original Doomers were red and blue. They love to eat Energy Spheres, which contain ancient technology. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description |
“ | These monsters were created by Susie entering data she acquired from her travels. Where and when did she encounter the original monsters from another dimension? Who knows? | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description (2.0) |
The Holo-Doomers attack identically to the pair found in Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3 of [[Kirby's Return to Dream Land|Template:KRDL KAW]]. Their 2.0 iteration uses the Sphere Doomers' EX designs.
Attacks - Holo-Doomers | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Swoop Attack | The Doomers can use a dive to sweep across the stage, dealing damage if they hit Kirby.
|
Orb Shot | The Doomers can fire orbs out of their mouths which travel in a straight line. The red ones can be swallowed for the Fire ability.
|
Orb Scatter | The red Doomer spins about, scattering its orbs across the stage.
|
Orb Drop | The Doomers drop orbs as they fly across the stage.
|
Burning Missile | The red Doomer engulfs in flames and then shoots horizontally across the stage. It stops in the middle, repositions, and fires again.
|
Gravity Well | The purple Doomer creates a vortex at its location, which lingers and pulls Kirby toward it.
|
Holo-Ice Dragon
“ | A hologram of a spectral dragon-- an ancient life-form that has lived through a number of ages. Most dragons breathe fire, but this blue dragon attacks with ice that it produces internally. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description |
“ | This hologram was created from an ancient dragon. Dragons are no longer seen, but one of them may still be living quietly in a cave on an island somewhere. Who knows? | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description (2.0) |
Holo-Ice Dragon is similar to its Kirby's Dream Land 2 iteration, but with an entirely new model and attacks that take advantage of its 3D appearance. Its 2.0 design is entirely new and features diamond-shaped motifs on its back and stomach.
Attacks - Holo-Ice Dragon | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Dash | The Holo-Ice Dragon runs toward Kirby, harming him if it hits. 2.0 dashes for longer, and turns while it dashes several times.
|
Hover | The Holo-Ice Dragon hops into the air and floats using its tail for a brief moment before landing again.
|
Ice Breath | The Holo-Ice Dragon breathes ice at Kirby, freezing if it hits.
|
Icicle Slam | The Holo-Ice Dragon stomps, causing icicles to form and fall over Kirby's head. These can be swallowed for the Ice ability. 2.0 produces more icicles.
|
Ice Shot | The Holo-Ice Dragon summons and kicks a large sliding mass of ice at Kirby. When it hits the wall, it leaves stars as it shatters.
|
Snowflake Shurikens | The Holo-Ice Dragon spits out a multitude of razor-sharp snowflakes that can be swallowed for the Ice ability.
|
Holo-Coily Rattler
“ | The hologram of the icon enshrined by People of the Sky. Its weak spot is the data on its head. It was only a snake puppet full of powerful energy, but it used to be worshiped as a deity. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description |
“ | It is said that the People of the Sky who enshrined this monster still exist. It seems that the mechanization invasion has not reached them due to their remote location. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description (2.0) |
Holo-Coily Rattler acts similarly to its Kirby: Triple Deluxe incarnation, with five pillars raising from the background to accommodate its attacks. As before, it can only be damaged at its head, which is colTemplate:Ored blue. It also now spits out bolts that give the Spark Ability, instead of rocks that give out Fire. Its 2.0 form uses the design of Coily Rattler DX and changes the colTemplate:Or of its head to red.
Attacks - Holo-Coily Rattler | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Spark Spit | Holo-Coily Rattler fires three sparking bolts from its mouth aimed at Kirby. These can be swallowed for the Spark Ability. It may also do this move from the background after slithering off the stage, or from under the platform.
|
Slither | Holo-Coily Rattler snakes its way across the stage, covering much of the ground and leaving electrical conflagration where it snakes. 2.0 does this twice.
|
Rollout | Holo-Coily Rattler curls up into a tight ball and rolls across the stage. On the underside, it then turns around and rolls back onto the stage, leaving small stars in a continuous trail.
|
Scatter Storm | After slithering off stage, Holo-Coily Rattler appears in the background, then flies apart into several segments, which then come raining down onto the stage producing more sparks and stars. The head comes down last, leaving big stars when it impacts the ground. 2.0 attacks more quickly and its head does not linger on the stage.
|
Burning Hoop | Holo-Coily Rattler starts spinning wildly in a loop on the stage, burning as it does so. It then moves toward Kirby in an attempt to hit him.
|
Bite Tackle | Holo-Coily Rattler appears at the top of the screen after leaving the stage, only its head poking out. After a short time, it dashes at Kirby in an attempt to grab him in its mouth. It leaves stars on impact if it doesn't hit, and tries again. If successful, it drags Kirby across the background, dealing continuous damage as it does so, finishing off by violently spitting him out onto the stage.
|
Phase 2
Once all four diamonds shatter, the API attempts to engage Kirby directly in a last resort measure. It only has one hit point during this phase.
Attacks - Phase 5 | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Berserk | The API, emitting constant sparks, flies haphazardly about the stage, jumping between foreground and background in an unpredictable fashion. As it does so, it occasionally drops stars which can be used to defeat it. 2.0 is harder to hit.
|
Once the API is defeated, it flies uncontrollably about the area, crashing into pillars, then explodes in a very flashy manner. Kirby then does his victory dance and progresses onward to the next level.
Other Appearances
“ | Redesigned by the Mother Computer, this defense system is based on a blueprint found on another planet. It's missing a segment of data and is unable to demonstrate its full potential. | ” | — Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description (2.0) |
The Holo Defense API is also fought in The Arena. Likewise, its upgraded variant, Holo Defense API 2.0, is fought in both Meta Knightmare Returns and The True Arena. In its 2.0 form, the holograms are primarily purple as opposed to the green of the default form.
Trivia
- It appears similar to Ado and Adeleine in terms of their battle system. All three have only one hit point in their final phase as well.
- The description for its 2.0 form implies that its design is based on the blueprints of Pix.
- The Holo-Doomers summoned are a Fire Doomer and a Normal Doomer. However, the Normal Doomer is described as "blue" when its colTemplate:Or scheme is more predominantly purple.
- Ice Dragon is the only boss who had not previously appeared in 3D. Because of this, it received a new model and moveset, while all others were recycled from previous 3D games (Template:KRDL KAW and Kirby: Triple Deluxe).
