"I'll Always Be Watching You."[Japanese title] is the main staff credits theme for the cutscene "Kirby's Curtain Call" from Kirby Star Allies. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]

Composition[edit]

Four friends pose for a picture.

"I'll Always Be Watching You." is a sweet and cheerful theme in G major and 4/4. It begins with a peaceful piano and guitar quotation of the second section of "Twinkle☆Stars". The percussion picks up from here, and a lively major variant of "Twinkle☆Traveler" akin to "Sudden Happy Ending" is played by a low clarinet. It is followed by an intermission based on the first section of "Friendly Field", and then this variant of "Twinkle☆Traveler" plays once again. The percussion's pace slows down, preparing a transition to the second section of "Twinkle☆Stars" (similar to its version in "Caverna's Great Maze" in phrasing). Violins and a flute join in a sixth above, and eventually they conclude with another, now resolving iteration of "Twinkle☆Traveler". Violins reprise the "Twinkle☆Stars" section with a gentle piano backing, now omitting "Twinkle☆Traveler".

In true Kirby fashion, the second section of "Green Greens" follows from a vibraphone. The previous instruments gradually join back. The strings pick up with an rhythmically altered iteration of the first section of "Twinkle☆Stars". Just then, the brass plays a major version of "Song of Supplication" as a violin holds a high counterpoint. Other instruments repeat the motif of "Song of Supplication" as it gradually retreats to the background, giving way to the following motif. "Twinkle☆Traveler" continues and attempts to modulate, which it eventually does to E-flat major. The second section of "Twinkle☆Stars" starts, but is cut short by the second phrase of "Kirby's Triumphant Return", which promises to return as characteristic bells play a brief transitional passage. "Kirby's Triumphant Return" and "Twinkle☆Traveler" alternate in quick succession as the music slows down and eventually ends in a E-flat major fanfare.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

As mentioned before, "I'll Always Be Watching You." plays during the "Kirby's Curtain Call" credits in Kirby Star Allies. It can also be found in the game's Jukebox as track 119 as of version 4.0.0.

Other appearances[edit]

The Sound of Kirby Café 2 features a light pop-style remix of this track titled きらめき星、うまれて (A Sparkling Star is Born), arranged by Hirokazu Ando.

Etymology[edit]

The Japanese title of this theme is a reference to a quote from Kirby seen in early advertising material for Kirby's Dream Land (back when the game was called Twinkle☆Popo and Kirby was called Popopo): 「君を見ていると、ずっと昔からおともだちだった気がするよ。」 (Looking at you, I feel like we've been friends for a long time.)
