- This article is about the theme music for Grass Land in Kirby's Dream Land 2. For other uses of "Grass Land", see Grass Land.
"Grass Land"[Japanese title] is the primary theme which plays in the corresponding level Grass Land in Kirby's Dream Land 2.
Composition[edit]
"Grass Land" is a short, chipper tune, with just under 8 seconds of intro transitioning into the loop with a descending passage, setting the mood in 128 beats per minute in 4/4 time. Like almost all Kirby themes prior to the late 2000s, the theme is a MIDI composition and is essentially played live by the Game Boy's sound generator. In the 22 second loop, two main sections are heard: the first is twice the length of the other, played in 8 measures as opposed to the latter's 4. While the first section is played mostly legato with brief rests between phrases of the melody, the second section is played in a more staccato sense.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]
The theme appears in the Grass Land stage of Kirby's Dream Land 2. It plays during the introductory cutscene for the level, leading into the first time Kirby visits the level hub, and also plays as the default music within the first three stages themselves. Due to Rick's presence within the level, much of it is played under "Rick's Theme" instead. The theme can be found as track 04 in the Sound Test.
Other appearances[edit]
The theme was performed live at the Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival as part of the "Kirby Through the Years: 1993-2004" medley, along with "Drawing Song", "Title Screen" from Kirby's Adventure, "Peanut Plains", "Candy Mountain", "The Last Iceberg", "Heading for 0²", and "Ending" from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
