"Nutty Noon" is a hub world theme for the level with the same name from Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1] This theme is the 38th song in the Jukebox (46th in the remake). Additionally, the theme can be heard in the wind ambience of Nutty Noon - Stage 5 titled "Fierce Winds".
Composition
"Nutty Noon" is a serene piece in A minor and 3/4. It features the theremin as its lead instrument, similarly to "Freezing Temple". Its whistling melody begins with a rising minor seventh, followed by a quicker descending passage. The melody repeats three times with different harmonies, and the fourth time a variation of the melody plays to diversify. This repeats, played by a brighter and more traditional theremin. The variation of the melody leads into the second, more lyrical synth section which features a slower melody with more consonant rising intervals. Each phrase of this new motif gradually descends relative to the previous. The new melody repeats with a new instrument and distant modulations. Eventually, the whistling theremin leads back into the original melody, at which point the track loops.
Trivia
- The internal name of "Nutty Noon" ("ST_KbyW_COLD1") suggests that it was originally composed for a ice-themed stage.
- "Snowball Scuffle"'s internal name is "ST_KbyW_COLD2", which implies that it was intended to be a counterpart or alternate version of "Nutty Noon".
- An unused version of "Nutty Noon" can be found in the game's files, featuring lower-fidelity instrumentation. Its internal name is "KbyW_COLD1_forstrm" — the meaning of "forstrm" is unknown, though "strm" likely stands for "stream".
