"Patch Castle" (named "Theme from Patch Castle" in the British English version) is a theme from Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn that plays in the stage with the same name. It was composed by Tomoya Tomita.[1]

Composition[edit]

The peaceful tutorial stage.

"Patch Castle" is a serene piece in A-flat major and 4/4. It is played by a solo piano, which utilizes a simplistic Alberti bass characteristic of Classical era music. The melody is sweet and likewise simple. It begins on an offbeat leading to a C. The first phrase uses a G-flat to develop the melody until it returns to dominant, while the second phrase reaches to a high D-flat, followed by a perfect cadence. The second section begins in C-flat major, inverting the opening phrase and shortening it. A variation of the phrase follows, leading into E-flat major, the dominant to A-flat. The track loops after a brief suspense.

Many structural and melodic elements of "Patch Castle" carry over to "Mushroom Run", in particular the (inverted) melody's intonations and characteristics of the middle section.
