"Splash Beach", named "Theme from Splash Beach (Night)" in the British English version, is a theme from Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn that plays in the stage with the same name during the nocturnal section. It was composed by Tomoya Tomita.[1]
Composition[edit]
A stack of sleeping turtles.
"Splash Beach" is a slow and tranquil theme in C major and 3/4 played by a solo acoustic guitar. It features a simple arpeggiated accompaniment and a steady melody consisting of two motifs. The first repeats a third consisting of G and B before eventually finding resolution in an A, subdominant in fucntion. The second section (somewhat similar to the final motif of "Grass Land") has two variations. The first has a plagal cadence with wave-like motion and raging within a seventh while tending to stick to the bottom A. The second phrase is rising in nature and has a passing D minor chord that only adds to the peacefulness of the following return to C major's dominant. This second section repeats, replacing the D minor chord and reaching the first and last perfect cadence of the piece, after which it loops.
