Template talk:Move

In its current form, this template automatically sorts any page it appears on into Category:Pages needing renaming. However, I could set it up so that it puts any pages with something entered in the first parameter into another category, so that it would be easier to find those that have a new name suggested, and separate them from those that don't. Any opinions on this? Moydow 17:51, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't think it would be really needed, as not many pages would need to be moved at a time. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 18:25, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Some category is definitely needed though so people (admins in particular) know what pages may need to be moved; the template doesn't make much sense if it doesn't categorise the pages. As for the splitting up/name thing, why would one even put up the template without suggesting a name? I would think that if someone believes a page should be moved, they would also have an idea where or they would not suggest a move...--Vellidragon 18:35, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
I meant the category renaming wasn't really necessary. Also, I think the category thing would be for groups, like files, just in case a huge group of pictures need to be moved to meet naming standards. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 19:49, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
It may seem useless now, but having it for later is always good. One thing I was wanting to do was turn the Community Portal page into a place where articles needing discussion on being moved/split/merged, etc can be linked to. It'll probably have permanent links to the categories for those articles as well. If I'm correct, the code you propose Moydow, will categorize by target pages, and the page to be moved separately, which would make sense to me. I've thought of trying to do that for the Merge template before. So I think the system you come up with would have some value to other similar templates here and at the NIWA sites.

The code I was thinking of is something of a 'filter system'. Pages that specify a target go in category A, those that don't go in category B. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your idea seems to be to put the page into category A, and the target into category B. Moydow 01:00, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I actually have no idea now :S Feel free to experiment, as later tweaks are easy enough. Axiomist (talk) 01:52, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

New parameter?[edit]

Currently, this template has one parameter, for a suggested title. Should it have a second parameter for reason, so that we can put a reason in the template without making it look like part of the suggested title? Like this:

Rename this page! Notice: This article may need to be moved to meet WiKirby's naming standards.
Please move this page to a more suitable title, or discuss changes on the talk page.
Suggested title: New Title
Reason: Reason why

It might be a good idea to rework this template a little bit altogether to streamline its wording. I'll see what I cam come up with. --Samwell (talk) 17:51, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Alright, I've made my changes. Let me know what you think. --Samwell (talk) 18:04, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Looks good, nice work! ---PinkYoshiFan 18:13, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
