He is the son of Hiroshi Miyagawa, the composer of the classic anime Space Battleship Yamato, and has continued his father's work on the series. Akira Miyagawa composed the original Japanese score for the Hoshi no Kābī anime, including its first opening theme and both ending themes. However, he was not involved in rearranging music from the games. Some of his work for the anime was reused in Kirby Air Ride and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
