Shorten[edit]

Could this template perhaps be shortened? It's a bit of a mouthful and takes up a relatively large amount of space compared to {{title}} or {{ForeignTitle}}. Maybe just using the phrase "internal title" or "internal data" would suffice? AdieuLain (talk) 00:05, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Yeah I feel the same way. I'd say let's shorten it to just "internal name" Results May Vary (talk) 00:09, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
Keep in mind that this wiki is meant for layman viewers, who would not necessarily know what 'internal' means. If you can find a way to shorten the language without mystifying it, then propose it here and it will be considered. --Fubaka (talk) 03:54, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
Maybe "based on internal data" or just "internal game data" instead? I think it gets the same message across, though it could still be as short as the other title templates in my opinon. Also: are these templates only intended for the title of the article? It doesn't seem so because Void Termina's phase 4 attack names all feature the {{DataTitle}} template (despite the {{ForeignTitle}} template being nowhere to be found), but using them only for the article title makes it easier to follow for categorization purposes. Indeed, this template can be used for areas aside from the article title. Given that this template is related to {{title}}, the caption ought to have the word 'title' in it at the very least. --Fubaka (talk) 04:48, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
Possibly "internal data title" then? I'm sure the context of video games should make the nature self-evident. Regarding areas aside from the article title: does the same go for {{title}} and {{ForeignTitle}}? AdieuLain (talk) 05:52, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
Usually when other names are listed in an article (as is the case for Void Termina's page), they are names associated with attacks. This is usually where speculative titles run rampant because attack names of bosses are not typically shared with us, but we got quite a few of them for many Star Allies bosses due to datamining and from Japanese magazines promoting the game. Up until then, it was acceptable to simply state on the boss attacks table that all the attack names were conjecture, but if there is a mix of names - some of which conjecture and some not - then it became necessary to label the names individually based on their status. As such, in those cases, we would be using {{title}} and {{ForeignTitle}} along with {{DataTitle}} as needed. That said, it may be necessary to clean things up a bit on those pages so that we aren't using the templates so many times in succession.
I think I will eschew my original sticking point, and propose the shortening of "from internal data". Does this seem agreeable to you? --Fubaka (talk) 17:46, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
I think that's fine for now. Regarding cleanup: maybe the templates should use the word "name" instead of "title" (or maybe split them)? After all, "title" gives the impression that it's referring specifically to the page title, which can make navigating categories confusing. AdieuLain (talk) 12:50, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
Perhaps this template really should only be used for article titles, with other examples being handled with asterisk remarks. I'll see what I can do about streamlining things a bit as I travel through our articles. In the meantime, I will go ahead and change the wording on this template, since we are in agreement. --Fubaka (talk) 17:21, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
