Theories[edit]

Maybe that's just me, but I don't think including theories on this page is a good idea. The series' lore is deliberately vague, so putting unconfirmed things on the same level as outright misconceptions seems a bit unfair to me, even specifying that they're only "not confirmed". There are a lot of people who have different interpretations of the lore, so there are bound to be biases, and there are already some on this page, and I don't think they'll ever disappear completely. Perhaps it would be better to make a separate page listing popular theories to remind people that these are indeed just theories and that nothing has been confirmed yet?

Here we are just stating facts, as we are a wiki and we deal with facts. If people in the fandom treat something not confirmed as confirmed, that's a misconception on its own. For example, I theorize that Bandee is the 64 Dee, but officially that's unconfirmed, but some people think it's confirmed. The former is a theory, the latter a misconception. - Gigi (talkedits) 14:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Also how do you even propose we draw a line between theory and misconception? The lines are extremely blurry, and like I said, here we are just presenting facts as they are. - Gigi (talkedits) 14:03, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

I think what he meant was that we shouldn't assert that something is false just because it hasn't been officially confirmed. When, in a theory, all the elements we have tend towards a conclusion, we can't unilaterally assert that what is said is false because it hasn't been confirmed. To take a real-life example, there are people who question the construction of the pyramids by the ancient Egyptians (it's a misconception) and archaeologists have studied these constructions for decades to imagine how they could have been built (it's a theory). However, if we reasoned as we do here, that would mean that the archaeologist’s conclusions would be just as false as those of the conspiracy theorists, because there are no ancient Egyptians to confirm their studies?
You said it's hard to draw a line between what's a misconception and what's a theory, but in fact that's not true. Everywhere on this page, for every misconception, there are arguments and documents confirming that what is said is false, whereas the theories on this same page are just "unconfirmed". Such radical statements require at least something to back them up. By suppressing the imagination and speculation of fans, which even with little evidence can be interesting, we could be depriving ourselves of some very good ideas in the future, and that's a real shame.
The Kirby series, as we saw above, is a series that arouses curiosity because it leaves room for the player's imagination, and all the art directors to date have respected this commitment. Just because we don't have obvious facts doesn't mean our theories are illogical and false. Logic and the magic of mystery shouldn't be pitted against each other, because that's what has allowed Kirby to survive until now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.141.125.195 (talkcontribs) 18:30, 22 April 2024 (UTC). I think you are misunderstanding the purpose of this page (and the wiki in general), but anyway I will not repeat a lot that was discussed since this message went out in our Discord server. But ultimately we have talks to basically make this page and List of mysteries complementary to each other. People in the community are free to make theories and headcanons about anything (I have lots of these myself), and this page is not meant to say "your theories and headcanons are wrong, here is why", but rather "here are the official stances on these matters", and in particular for a fandom where a lot of theories are treated as facts, and needless debates happen over that in particular, I think we need to draw the line between facts and speculation, and this page, as a wiki which deals with facts, we are just presenting the facts as is. I think your comparison to Egyptian things is a bit extreme, as the people who create Kirby as very much alive and they comment on what they want. In particular, a lot of the things we claim here are unconfirmed are exactly because the devs either have never commented on such, or often made comments where they go "I would rather not confirm or deny". - Gigi (talkedits) 18:39, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
(edit bumped) Mmm... I feel like it's one thing to allow speculation and another to comment on speculation as a wiki. The primary purpose of this page is to state facts and avoid spreading misconceptions, not to discourage theories. The Kirby series is different from a history book; while historians have millennia of history and constant new discoveries to construct and back up their scientific theories, we only have what's written by the authors as a fictional series. It's pretty obvious with scientific evidence that the Egyptian pyramids were built by the Egyptians and not ancient aliens; it's less obvious in the Kirby series to guess the writers' intent on, for example, what Void Termina's relation to Dark Matter is. Our choices as a wiki are essentially to either take no stance or to give all theories equal weight, as if we choose a single theory to take the side of, we would be biased. Since we don't want to spend our time listing out every theory, our goal is simply to state the facts to clear up confusion and lead readers to draw their own conclusions, not to ruin anyone's fun or suppress the artistry and mystery of the series. Overlap with List of mysteries[edit]

As talked on Discord yesterday, this page has some overlap with List of mysteries, with some things here even already covered there. While some subjects probably make sense to be covered in both pages, as they are both mysteries where people have misconceptions about, I think we should discuss what is here and currently stays, goes there, or is covered in both. Here is how I see it:

  • Kirby's original color - misconception
  • Kirby's original name - misconception
  • The origin of the name Kirby - misconception
  • Kirby's main catchphrase - misconception
  • Kirby's vocabulary - misconception
  • Kirby's speaking ability - misconception

In short, almost everything here falls under misconceptions, a couple is both misconception and mysteries, some are just mysteries. Do you all agree with these or disagree with any? I will admit I am not 100% sure on these. - Gigi (talkedits) 19:02, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

The "if Bandana Waddle Dee is Kirby 64 Waddle Dee" I think is part misconception, in the same vein as Ado/Adeleine, since some people believe that the nods at them being similar are meant to confirm them being the same character, when they likely aren't mean to confirm anything definitely. We could rewrite that to address that more specifically, and then move the rest to the list of mysteries? I agree that besides that we could move the rest that are purely mysteries. StarPunch (talk) 19:06, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
That feels fair, I have personally never seen anyone claim that as a fact but I can see the similarity between the Ado vs Adeleine debate, just less heated I guess, lol. - Gigi (talkedits) 19:09, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
