''Kirby Star Allies'' was initially announced at E3 2017, known then as '''''Kirby for Nintendo Switch'''''. |As usual, Kirby takes on the role of main protagonist and playable character in the Story Mode, in addition to other peripheral modes. He sets off on a journey after the [[Jamba Heart]] fragments rain down across the universe and disturb the peace to find their source and put a stop to the chaos. Along the way, Kirby utilizes a new power bestowed upon him that allows him to turn his enemies into [[Helper|allies]].

===Friend Combo Attacks===

Standard friends can be recruited by tossing [[Make Friend|Friend Heart]]s at them in the stages where they appear. There are also special friends (referred to as [[Dream Friend]]s) who can be obtained by visiting a [[Dream Palace]], or using a Dream Rod item. Dream Friends are special characters with their own unique move-sets. Friends are able to bear different [[Color changes|color schemes]] depending on their player number, being yellow for player 2, blue for player 3 or green for player 4. In addition, the Friends wear Kirby-style hats appropriate to their ability once they've been recruited.

|The original Beetle-like wrestler appears for the first time in 3-D. His moves are largely the same as before, though he also gains the ability to dive at Kirby from the sky, as well as use the Pinpoint Kick. He can become an ally once defeated.

|This infamous chef returns for the first time in 3-D. His attacks include throwing dishes, spinning through the air, and grabbing Kirby with his ladle to cook him up. He can be recruited as an ally once defeated.

*The concept of an alien language (of the people of Jambastion/Jambandra) would be explored even further in ''Kirby and the Forgotten Land'', in the language of the [[New World]] people. In addition, the two languages have some words with similar spellings or origins.

*The concept of showing tips while the game loads would carry over to ''Kirby Fighters 2'', as well to ''[[Kirby's Dream Buffet]]'' (albeit for the latter, unrelated to the game loading).
