HR-D3

HR-D3 is a large robot that has a drill as its hand on one arm and a normal robotic hand on the other that appears in Kirby Mass Attack and [[Kirby's Return to Dream Land|Template:KRDL KAW]]. It also has a logo painted on its chest; in Kirby Mass Attack it is King Dedede's V-sign insignia inside a circle but the symbol in the circle is a completely different and new one in Template:KRDL KAW.
Game Appearances
Kirby Mass Attack
HR-D3 appears as Dedede Robot (though that name comes from the 20th Anniversary Hoshi no Kirby Pupupu Taizen) in the Kirby Quest mode, as the last encounter in Chapter 2. It has King Dedede's insignia painted on its plating even though it shows no ties to Dedede in its next appearance. It has 2500 HP.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
HR-D3 only appears in Extra Mode and can be fought again in The True Arena, and in the former it is fought directly after Metal General at the end of Egg Engines. If the fight with HR-D3 is lost, Metal General's fight is automatically skipped so the player can try again, though losing a life on the second stage of HR-D3's restarts at the first stage of the fight with the former.
Attacks
HR-D3 fights in two phases, with two separate health bars. The following are the attacks in the first phase:
Attacks - Phase 1 | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Drill & Punch | |
Missile Barrage | |
Laser Sweep | |
Spin Attack |
In the second phase, a new health bar must be depleted, and HR-D3 attacks on the stage itself, taking up a great deal of space as it does so:
Attacks - Phase 2 | |
---|---|
Attack | Description |
Drill & Punch | |
Laser Sweep & Missile Barrage | |
Bouncing Strike | |
Body Slam | |
Mega Laser Cannon | |
Spin Attack |
As HR-D3 takes damage, it loses pieces, eventually ending up as a barely functioning skeleton near the end of the fight. Defeating it destroys its essential components, and causes it to fall backwards and explode with the Metal General inside.

Trivia
- HR-D3 was designed as a robotic fighter for King Dedede in the canceled GameCube Kirby game. The D3 part of its name is a reference to Dedede's name, since "Dedede"'s pronunciation has three Ds in a row in both Japanese in English (with that previously being made note of when translating Super Smash Bros. Brawl into English). Even though in its appearances in finished games, it shows only ties to Dedede in Mass Attack in the form of having King Dedede's insignia on it, presumably left over from the role it was originally going to have, which was replaced with a different symbol in Return to Dream Land because it is unrelated to Dedede (who is able to fight it with it fighting back, appearing to indicate that HAL dropped plans for it to be King Dedede's robot) and the fact that in that game it does not come from Pop Star like Dedede, but from another dimension entirely.
- King Dedede would eventually end up getting his own robot, however, in Dededestroyer Z.
- Much like the D3 part is a reference to King Dedede, the HR part draws a parallel with HR-H from Kirby 64. Like HR-D3, it was also not from Pop Star, but rather Shiver Star.
- For the first phase of the fight with HR-D3 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, the music from the Grand Doomer fight is used. For the second phase, the Landia boss music is used.
