Like other stage select themes, "Sand Canyon: Stage Select is a rather short track. This theme is in the key of F Lydian mode and is played by a trumpet-like lead instrument. The melody doesn't diverge from F Lydian, but does not accentuate it either. The key is instead implied through woodwind like instruments backing up the theme, playing a simple rhythm of eight notes in a pattern similar to that of "[[Grass Land (1)]]", as well as percussion that plays at the beginning of each measure. The first phrase of the piece is primarily descending and ends on an A, while the second has a sharp rise and establishment of the tonic through its triad's notes.
