"The King and the Sun" is an arrangement of "King Dedede's Theme", stylized to sound like "My Friend and the Sunset", capitalizing on their innate similarity. As such, it is set in A minor and 6/8 time, and has similar instrumentation. It features a descending variant of the intro and accompaniment from "My Friend and the Sunset", followed by the second ("Peanut Plains") section of "King Dedede's Theme". Near its latter half, the theme diverges and resolves to tonic. From here, the first section of "King Dedede's Theme" continues. It gives way to a final section close to the second elemnt of "My Friend and the Sunset" and diverged second phrase from "King Dedede's Theme". This stays in a prolonged dominant before looping.
