Rainbow Run is one of the four modes in Kirby: Canvas Curse. Within it, Kirby competes for medals by entering Time trials and Line Trials.  Time trials require for Kirby to reach the end of the second room in a limited amount of time, while line trials require Kirby to get to the end of the room by using the least amount of ink possible. It features 7 levels and a Special Course which is not found in the storyline to replace The World of Drawcia. In each world of the 7 levels, there are 2 designated rooms from the world in the storyline. The special course has its worlds focus on the copy abilities Stone, Wheel, Missile, and Balloon. Unlike time and line trials, there is a Course A and a Course B for each ability, both of which have a line and a time challenge. The worlds in the levels can be played in Rainbow Run once they are unlocked in the storyline, while worlds in the special course must be unlocked by getting them by swapping medals.

Stages are selected by spinning the wheel and opting for any of the 7 levels. From the hub screen any hex shaped icon can be tapped to view high scores or open the option for the two trials pertaining to that stage. Each course of Rainbow Run offers 6 medals awarded upon completion of the stage requirements. The Time Trials will offer medals for three different time goals. Completing the course in the time of the lowest for a medal award will automatically grant all three medals. The other three medals for the course are unlocked in the Line Trial, which instead of the time goal rewards based on the amount of ink left. As with Time Trial, all three medals will be awarded if only the top condition is met. The courses can be played with an unlocked Character Ball. The Waddle Dee ball for example may be considered more advantageous for not having to pick up and discard an unwanted ability.

Time Trial
Time Trial stages consist of one room from each Main Game level's stages. The objective in this mode of Rainbow Run is to race through the course to reach the exit door as quickly as possible. This mode can be selected by tapping the green box labeled as Time Trial in the Rainbow Run hub screen. Previously earned medals (if any) are visible in this hub for ease in finding which stages to play for further medal unlocking. The Best Scores are also saved, and the game has no set time limit. Depletion of Kirby's health will end the game, and no food, or health replenishing items can be found in the stage.

Line Trial
As with Time Trial, Line Trial offers rooms from each Main Game levels. Most of the stages in the two trials are different rooms from one another. The top screen replaces the clock with a large ink bottle. The rainbow colored ink bottle drains slightly with each Rainbow Line drawn. The objective is to reach the goal and exit the stage using as little ink as possible. To maximize efficiencies of the lines drawn, many of the devices and copy abilities offered in a stage can be manipulated. Especially useful are elevators, cannons, cranes, inclined surfaces or anything that will send the character ball skywards. Some copy abilities, such as Burning (to cross chasms) can be used to satisfy a need for a line. By taking advantage of these strategies, less ink will be used resulting in a higher score and potentially a medal reward.
