==Pre-release==
*April 12, 2017: In celebration of Kirby's 25th anniversary, a Nintendo Direct teased about an "upcoming ''Kirby'' multiplayer action game for the holidays".

*September 13, 2017: The game was unveiled as ''Kirby Battle Royale'' via Nintendo Direct.

*September 18, 2017: The official Kirby 25th Anniversary Twitter made a Tweet showcasing [[Flagball]], [[Attack Riders]] and [[Apple Scramble]].

*September 28, 2017: A collage of screenshots of the opening cutscene from the story mode, Dedede's Cake Royale, was revealed.

*October 3, 2017: The name of the machine first seen in the first Japanese reveal trailer, the "Kirby Printer", was revealed.

*October 5, 2017: New gameplay footage of the [[Parasol]] and [[Ninja]] abilities were Tweeted out. The footage showed the Wind-Up Trick move for the Ninja ability, in which Kirby summons a bomb in the guise of a winding Ninja Kirby toy.

*October 9, 2017: Alternate [[Costumes|Headgear]] for Copy Abilities were confirmed in a screenshot on a news post Tweet.

*October 12, 2017: An overview trailer was uploaded to the Japanese Nintendo official YouTube channel. The overview showcased all 13 Copy Abilities and 10 game modes and gave rules and mechanics of each game mode. The story mode's premise was given. Certain kinds of Copy Ability headgear were shown to be unlocked with ''Kirby'' series amiibo. At the end of the video, where amiibo functionality and compatibility are showcased, Qbby, another character created by HAL, is given product placement with his amiibo giving a Qbby hat for the [[Bomb]] ability.

*October 18, 2017: Scans from an issue of the Famitsu magazine advertising ''Kirby Battle Royale'' were uploaded. Meta Knight's appearance was also confirmed in another news posting from the 25th Anniversary Twitter.

==Demo and release==
*October 19, 2017: A demo of the game with three battle modes ([[Battle Arena]], Apple Scramble and [[Crazy Theater]]), abilities ([[Sword]], [[Beetle]] and [[Cutter]]), and modes (Battle Mode and the opening of [[Dedede's Cake Royale|Story Mode]]) was released in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Transferring the save game from the demo to the full game will unlock Meta Knight from the start.

*November 3, 2017: The full version of the game was released in the same respective regions.

*January 4, 2018: The demo was released in North America, with the full game releasing in the continent on January 19, 2018. Purchasing the game from the eShop grants the Mirror ability automatically, while purchasing a physical copy does not include either Mirror or Sleep.

==Copy Ability poll==

*April 12, 2017: A Copy Ability Poll was opened up on ''Kirby'' sections of the official Japanese, American, and European Nintendo websites.

*September 18, 2017: The Kirby 25th Anniversary and Nintendo of Europe Twitter accounts released an Interim Report on the [[Copy Ability]] Poll. The top 5 Copy Abilities were [[Mirror]], [[Yo-Yo]], [[UFO]], [[Plasma]] and [[Sleep]] respectively.

*September 30, 2017: The Kirby 25th Anniversary Twitter account announced that the results of the Copy Ability Poll would be released in November. The official North American ''Kirby'' website gave a specific date of November 7, 2017, after the poll ended in all regions. The European Nintendo website stated that the winning Copy Ability would receive a "3DS Home Menu and custom wallpaper" and may be featured in ''Battle Royale''.

*November 6, 2017: The final results of the 5th and 4th most voted Copy Abilities for the poll were announced in a Tweet by Nintendo of America. The following day, the top 3 most voted Copy Abilities were announced. [[Sleep]], [[Yo-Yo]], and [[Mirror]] scored 3rd, 2nd, and 1st, respectively. As a result, Mirror was added to the game and given its own 3DS theme.

*December 2, 2017: The second round of voting ended.

*December 13, 2017: [[Mirror]] was added into the game in version 2.0.

*January 30, 2018: The results of the second Copy Ability poll were announced, with Suplex, Yo-Yo, and Sleep placing in the top three. Sleep Kirby was added to the game in version 3.0 the following day.
