In this stage, the Kirbys are placed in an open grassy area where the ground slopes slightly downward just before the base of Whispy Woods. The fight begins as expected when Whispy Woods starts dropping harmful fruit onto the Kirbys' heads, which they will have to avoid as they pummel him repeatedly. There are two types: the red ones break immediately after falling and the green ones bounce along the ground until they hit a wall. Whispy Woods can also use his signature breath attack to blow the Kirbys away in long swirling gusts of wind. Any Kirbys caught in this will be momentarily dazed afterward.

Once Whispy Woods takes enough damage, however, he starts to grow taller, revealing more segments that can be separately attacked. The Kirbys should be careful when attacking these segments, however, since they may either sprout green mushrooms that bounce the Kirby away or sport spikes that will harm them on contact. When these segments are battered enough, they will break, allowing the Kirbys to attack the main body of Whispy Woods again. Whispy Woods will grow one more set of segments, with his overall health indicated by the hue of his canopy as it cycles through autumn colors. After being pummeled sufficiently three times, Whispy Woods is defeated, allowing the Kirbys to move on to the next level.
