'''Chef Kawasaki''' is a recurring character in the [[Kirby (novel series)|''Kirby'' novel series]], first appearing in ''[[Kirby and the Dangerous Gourmet Mansion?!]]''. His depiction massively contrasts [[Chef Kawasaki (anime character)|his anime counterpart]] — he is the most talented chef in [[Dream Land]], and he runs the most popular restaurant there. Here, Chef Kawasaki is depicted as a much more smart and serious character than usual. He also gets easily distressed if a heavy situation is occurring, whether it affects him or not. Steak is shown to be one of Kawasaki's signature dishes. [[Kirby (novel character)|Kirby]] and [[King Dedede (novel character)|King Dedede]] are huge fans of his cooking.

|Early in the story, when [[Kirby (novel character)|Kirby]] is cooking something for the party, [[King Dedede (novel character)|King Dedede]] orders [[Waddle Dee (novel character)|Waddle Dee]] to fetch Chef Kawasaki to compete with Kirby. When out searching for him, [[Bronto Burt]] informs Waddle Dee that Chef Kawasaki had been hired by [[Mrs. Parfaitski]]. At the party, [[Meta Knight (novel character)|Meta Knight]] asks about this, her pleasant attitude shifts, and she starts acting nervously. It is later revealed that Chef Kawasaki was one of the many chefs that Mrs. Parfaitski locked up for her picky and unnecessary dissatisfaction with their food. Chef Kawasaki finally appears at the end, where he thanks Kirby, Dedede, and Meta Knight for freeing him and the other chefs. He then prepares a new feast for the party with the other chefs, with each now making their master dish.

|When Kirby and Waddle Dee head to Kawasaki's, they see that his restaurant is closed, with King Dedede being served inside despite this. Kirby charges at the door, only for Chef Kawasaki to shoo them away without explaining himself. Kawasaki exhaustedly goes back inside to serve a bossy and demanding Dedede. It is revealed that Dedede came in earlier with a "Super-Premium All-You-Can-Eat Card", which lets Kawasaki give the King as much food as he wants for free, much to the chef's dismay. Eventually, [[Kerota, Keroji, and Kerolina]] come to the restaurant to send Dedede on a journey with them. They try to butter him up with compliments, and Kawasaki butts in with more compliments in attempt to get Dedede out of his restaurant. Dedede leaves with the trio, leaving Kawasaki in peace. Kirby and Waddle Dee later drop by to ask Kawasaki about Dedede's whereabouts. Chef Kawasaki initially hesitates, but then privately tells them. As the two leave, they promise to keep it a secret for Kawasaki's sake.

|In the beginning of the story, Chef Kawasaki is nervously reading a newspaper as Meta Knight comes into his restaurant. Meta Knight requests a cake of utmost delectability, for the king of [[List of novel-exclusive locations|Chiffon Star]], [[Merengue XIII]]. Upon hearing the planet's name, Chef Kawasaki feels strangely grim. He shows Meta Knight the newspaper, revealing that the princess of Chiffon Star—[[Princess Marona]]—has gone missing. As Meta Knight sets out for Chiffon Star, he tells Chef Kawasaki to bake the cake anyway, because he will save her before the king's birthday party. In the end, Chef Kawasaki comes to the king's birthday party and brings the cake he prepared. Merengue XIII finds it to be just as great as Chiffon Star's cakes, which flatters Chef Kawasaki.

|In this volume, Chef Kawasaki is one of the many contestants in the big race held in [[Dream Land]]. Throughout the race, Chef Kawasaki is usually grouped with the other contestants without standing out. One of the events involves swimming through a pool of chocolate. When [[Walky]] is heard screaming in the forest, all of the chocolate-covered contestants go in to investigate. They meet a monstrous bear named [[Peperon]], who picks up Chef Kawasaki. Just as everyone thinks he will get eaten, Peperon starts licking the chocolate off of him. After Kawasaki is licked clean, Peperon tosses him away. Even after Peperon is revealed to be harmless, Chef Kawasaki is still annoyed about this.

|In this volume, when King Dedede thinks that a cake should be the prize for the winner of the tournament, he sends Waddle Dee to order a cake from Chef Kawasaki. Chef Kawasaki makes a special cake for the competition called the Deluxe Mountain Cake. After [[Cron]] reveals [[Tron]] as a farmer from Trocro, Chef Kawasaki notes that he tasted one of his vegetables and that they taste terrible. When Kirby and Waddle Dee win the tournament and get the cake, Kawasaki explains its ingredients. He is proud that Kirby likes the cake and tells that he stayed up for three nights to make it. Chef Kawasaki is sad that Kirby inhales all the cake at once because he spent so much time making it, and becomes more angry when Kirby asks for a second cake.

|Chef Kawasaki first appears in the prologue, refusing to open his restaurant despite Kirby wanting to eat there. He claims he's sick, and warns Kirby to not talk to [[Yin-Yarn|a man who is made of yarn]]. After Kirby leaves, he recalls getting attacked earlier by said man, and getting his body completely transformed into yarn. Kawasaki only appears again in the epilogue, as the one who makes the food for the fest celebrating the end of Kirby's newest adventure. Kawasaki is also mentioned by Kirby a couple times throughout the story, at one point even making him homesick, missing Kawasaki's cooking.

|In this volume, Chef Kawasaki is mentioned by other characters several times. He is mentioned by Kirby when he hopes that winning the airplane race will make Chef Kawasaki cook for him. He is also mentioned by Waddle Dee when he tells Kirby that with the prize money for finding the gears Kirby could eat 100,000 deluxe meals at Chef Kawasaki’s restaurant. He is mentioned again by Kirby when he is distracted by the amount of food that Chef Kawasaki will make if he gains the prize money, instead of putting the gear in the box.

|In this volume, Chef Kawasaki works on a new dessert, a pie made from Whispy Woods' fruit. King Dedede visits Kawasaki's restaurant and orders food. Chef Kawasaki offers him to try the pie. When Dedede refuses to eat it, Kawasaki wonders what made him so angry. After Dedede leaves, Kirby comes to the restaurant and wants to taste the new pie. Seeing him try to inhale the whole pie, Chef Kawasaki attacks Kirby to stop him, since he wants Kirby to truly enjoy the dish. Chef Kawasaki tells him about King Dedede's refusal to eat the pie, and they both wonder why he suddenly doesn't like Whispy's fruit. Chef Kawasaki goes to Whispy Woods to restock the fruits and Kirby joins him, collecting the fruits in a basket. The Whispy Woods' pies become a great success in the restaurant, making Chef Kawasaki too busy to go out of the restaurant. When Kirby suggests to him to move the restaurant closer to Whispy Woods, he declines, and offers instead to open a new restaurant, which Kirby and Waddle Dee will handle. Chef Kawasaki thinks how to name the new café but seeing that everyone calls it “Kirby Café”, he chooses to call it by this name too. Later, Chef Kawasaki visits Whispy Woods to see the progress on the café. He brings Kirby a new pizza he created and wants to put on the menu, which Kirby tastes and thinks is good. When [[Bronto Burt]] talks about the Dedede Café, Kawasaki is horrified from the sound of its dishes. Kirby wants to defeat the Dedede Café, and Chef Kawasaki tries to calm him down. When Kawasaki goes to visit Whispy Woods again, he meets Kirby who tells him that he is very ill. Kawasaki tastes his fruit, which became sour. After accepting the competition against the Dedede Café, he worries that they will lose because of the sour fruits. While Kirby and King Dedede are trying to get the [[Green Spider Grass]], Chef Kawasaki starts the competition without them. For the first round, he makes a pizza, and is declared the winner of the round. For the second round, he makes a ginger ale, but the Dedede Café wins. For the dessert, Kawasaki is disappointed that he cannot use Whispy's fruits, and decide to make pancakes instead, yet continues to think about the fruits. Chef Kawasaki comes to see Whispy Woods condition after he heals. He suggests moving the competition near Whispy Woods, and everyone agrees. Kirby wants to help him make the dessert, and seeing his happiness, Kawasaki agrees. They make a parfait which Kirby stuffs with everything he can. The results of the competition are a tie, and Chef Kawasaki prepares dishes for the audience of the competition to try. Kawasaki shows Waddle Dee and the others an omurice that he made in the shape of him, which convinces Dedede to let him work at the Kirby Café.
