This article is about the Copy Ability from Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, and should not be confused with Artist, a Copy Ability from Kirby Star Allies.

Paint is a limited-use Copy Ability appearing in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra which, when used, becomes a powerful attack on Bosses. Kirby can gain the paint ability from swallowing the colored projectiles from Chameleo Arm, Heavy Lobster and Marx Soul. The Paint ability is good only for one attack before Kirby is reverted to normal, tied with Light for the least amount of uses of any Copy Ability in the Kirby series. Additionally, like other limited-use abilities, Kirby cannot create a helper from the Paint ability. Paint also cannot be obtained through a mix.

When Kirby uses the Paint ability, he splatters large drops of paint in several places on the screen, followed by Kirby lashing out with some wild brush strokes, causing a different effect depending on what boss he is fighting. When paint is used on Chameleo Arm, his color is changed or he is made perfectly visible again if he had turned invisible. If the ability is used on Heavy Lobster, it causes it to turn red and a paint blob to cover its eye, blinding it and thus causing it to attack randomly instead of aiming at Kirby. However, when this ability is used on Marx Soul, there is no visual difference, and all it does is cause a little bit of damage to the boss. If taken outside of a boss battle by either letting a Helper finish off the boss or by returning to the world map of Milky Way Wishes, the Paint ability can be used on normal enemies, where it functions exactly the same as the Crash ability.

While Paint itself would not appear in any games aside from Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, its influence can be seen in the Artist move "Painbrush", which is a similar attack that splatters paint everywhere and defeats all regular enemies on screen. This move cannot be used by Vividria, and Kirby loses the Artist ability after using the move, similar to how Paint functions.

Perfect! It is Paint Kirby!
— Meta Knight, in Dedede's Monsterpiece

The Paint ability appears only once in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, in the episode Dedede's Monsterpiece. Here, Kirby obtains the ability after inhaling Paint Roller's paintbrush. The ability is depicted differently here than it is in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, giving Kirby a pair of roller skates similar to those of Paint Roller, and the ability to paint things that come to life like he does. This depiction of the Paint Ability makes it more similar to the Artist Copy Ability which would appear later in Kirby Star Allies.
