The Turbo Star's acceleration abilities and top speed are very advanced, but it has a unique control style that takes some getting used to.

The Turbo Star is a rideable machine in Kirby Air Ride. As its name implies, it has a high top speed and acceleration. Aside from that, it is notable for having unorthodox turning control.

Appearance[edit]

The base of this machine is colored a bright-red hue, and has a fiberglass-like texture to it. It appears as a vaguely shaped five-point star, but with each point on either side bent towards the two near the backward side. The tip pointed forward has been affixed with a large engine intake, colored burgundy and white, with a slightly more metallic texture than the rest of the base. Floating at either side of the base are two expulsion engines matching the style of the intake near the front; they expel what appears to be heated air and occasional bursts of yellow-colored fumes. The engines' floating point in relation to the base varies with the vehicle's trajectory and steering.

Mechanics[edit]

Most of the Turbo Star's statistics are near average, but what makes it peculiar is its unusual method of turning. It turns much more sharply at slower speeds and much more gradually at higher speeds in comparison to all other vehicles. In addition, turning for too long has a tendency to make it spin out of control. Slowing to charge while turning alleviates these flaws somewhat, but even then, this method of turning can be difficult to predict and master, especially for a rider not accustomed to the vehicle. Similarly, it charges extremely slow while stopped and much faster at higher speeds. In addition, its gliding ability is sub-par.

Despite its flaws, the Turbo Star has above-average top speed, charge, and to a lesser extent offense to compensate. When used correctly, it is fairly balanced and can handle, but not excel in, most challenges thrown its way in both Air Ride and City Trial.

How to unlock[edit]

To unlock this machine for use in Air Ride, the player must race on Magma Flows with any vehicle, ride each of the three rails in the course's volcano at least once each, and still finish in 1st place. This can only be feasibly done by raising the course's number of laps, as the default laps is two and only one rail can be rode per lap.

In City Trial, the Turbo Star can occasionally be found randomly throughout the city and be mounted like most other air ride machines. It is always available in Free Run as well.
