Glitches in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Listed below are the glitches in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Please read the Glitch Disclaimer Notes before attempting any of the glitches listed on this page. Note that the listed names of glitches on this page are conjectural.

List of glitchesEdit

Cairn wall clipEdit

If Kirby stands up against a wall and throws Cairn directly at it, the higher two segments of Cairn's body will travel upward through the wall, but the bottom segment will simply bounce off. This glitch can be used to defeat enemies standing on higher ground.[1]

Frozen KirbyEdit

Nintendo of America's tweet announcing a patch to the Frozen Kirby glitch

In the Nintendo Switch Online port of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, taking damage underwater once caused Kirby's animation to freeze, and he himself would drift to the left or right. In this state, Kirby was unresponsive to any button inputs, though he was also invulnerable to enemies. If Kirby entered a new room while in this state, he would return to normal. If he became trapped, the player would be forced to restart the stage.[2]

On May 27, 2022, Nintendo of America announced that a patch to this glitch would soon be released. The glitch was fixed on May 30, 2022 with the release of Version 2.3.1.

Miracle Matter invincibility glitchEdit

Miracle Matter in its Burn form

This glitch can only be performed if Kirby has one health bar left during the boss fight with Miracle Matter in Stage 4 of Ripple Star. When Miracle Matter is in its Burn form, Kirby must position himself directly underneath the boss and jump into it when it begins shooting streams of fire. Though this glitch is somewhat inconsistent, it will cause Kirby to become invincible to all of Miracle Matter's attacks if performed correctly. However, Kirby will also be unable to collect the Crystal Shard (or Maxim Tomato if Miracle Matter has already been beaten) that appears once the boss is defeated. As such, Kirby cannot complete the stage and the game must be reset.[1]

Rock Star Cutter glitchEdit

The room in which the Rock Star Cutter glitch can be performed

This glitch can be performed in the vertically scrolling section of the first stage of Rock Star. If Kirby has the Cutter Copy Ability and throws a piece of himself into either of the walls, it will remain stuck in the wall as long as Kirby is far away enough from it. To undo this glitch, Kirby must simply walk toward his missing piece.[1]
