Require archiving external links (May 20th, 2023 - June 3rd, 2023)
Archiving external links
Ideally when using a website, image from the Internet, or especially a post from the social media as a citation, a link to a Wayback Machine archive should also be provided. This is a future-proof measure, in case the site (or the account) gets deleted and the source is no longer accessible or verifiable. Finding an archive is simple: just paste the URL of the site you want to add into the Wayback Machine search bar and see if its here. If yes, then its simple, just use the URL provided. If no, then its still simple, as it can be requested for an archive to be done, which should only take few minutes.
Note that some sites block Internet Archive (such as Nintendo of Europe). In this case, the rule does not apply.

I propose for the above text to be added to WiKirby:Citing policy. The events that had happened recently, such as Imgur purging their site from many images, Nintendo Online Magazine and Smash Bros. DOJO!! shutting down, as well as prophecies of Twitter's death have raised awareness that stuff on the internet, in particular social media, can easily be deleted. Thus, as a future-proof measure, I believe every possible external link that can be archived should be done so with Web Archive. 12:18, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

#Agreed. Losing stuff off the internet is going to happen, but making sure it's not gone forever is why the Wayback Machine was made. We already have some sources that may have no archive, and it would be a good thing to keep that from growing. 12:23, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
#Fight link rot. (That could be a useful policy to refer to, by the way.) It'll only be a matter of time before other websites, like CBC's website for the anime and possibly even the original Smash Bros and Melee promo pages (with Kirby questions and answers), also shut down. 15:35, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

I also suggest that archive.today is an acceptable website or at least doesn't seem to be immediately going away after ten years. Wayback Machine should still be preferred. Per wikipedia:WP:WEBARCHIVES, Mementos will allow searching multiple archiving services at once. 15:35, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
:It's worth noting that although it took a few minutes, archive.today can archive NoE sites for the moment. 15:39, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
::Both should be used. Internet Archive has been lately clashing with lawsuits (i.e. wikipedia:Hachette v. Internet Archive) and its future is uncertain. 16:21, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
