Gobbler is a boss that only appears in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. It guards the Mirror Shard of Olive Ocean and is fought again after that in Boss Endurance.
Gobbler is a blue shark with a red and white lifebelt attached to its waist, despite its ability to swim. There appears to be a star-shaped pattern with a lighter shade of blue on the tip of its snout. Gobbler's teeth are big in relation to its size, hence the name. What would be its tail is instead a propeller which keeps it afloat underwater.
Boss Battle[edit]
Gobbler fights an underwater battle against Kirby. The room is mostly made up of water, with three small platforms above it. Its attacks including summoning mini sharks (7 HP each underwater or 1 HP when out of the water), biting or charging into Kirby underwater, and jumping out of water to attack Kirby on the platform.
Since this is a mostly underwater battle, Kirby will want to use his Water Gun technique or go into battle with one of the few Copy Abilities that can attack underwater. Inhaling and swallowing the mini sharks will yield the Sword ability.
Gobbler has 60 HP and takes additional damage from two weaknesses:
- Electric: +2 damage from Beam (or 'Chain Beam' from UFO), Spark (though practically only UFO can fight underwater among these abilities)
- Slash: +2 damage from Cutter, Cupid, Sword, Master (though practically only Sword and Master can fight underwater among these abilities)
Notably, Gobbler can be easily defeated by Stone (or the same attack from Smash). The stone will get slowed down when sinking in water, resulting in Stone Kirby's hitbox continuously attacking Gobbler - Stone does 10 damage per hit which can defeat Gobbler in six hits.
Upon its defeat, Gobbler will slowly sink for a few seconds before exploding and relinquishing its Mirror Shard. If it is defeated in midair, Gobbler will stay in midair before disappearing.
Other appearances[edit]
- Gobbler and several other bosses can be found on the stained glass windows from King Golem's room in Moonlight Mansion.
- Gobbler appears as a keychain in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
- Gobbler appears as a sticker in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
- Gobbler appears on a Character Treat in Kirby's Dream Buffet, using its in-game sprite from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
Trivia[edit]
- According to the booklet from Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, Gobbler was originally titled "Great Jaws" in early development of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
