Kirby's Dream Collection is a game for the Wii celebrating Kirby's 20th Anniversary, showcasing the history of the Kirby series.[1] It was released on Template:Date in Japan[2] and Template:Date in North America.[3]
Contents
Kirby's Dream Collection contains a Wii game disc containing ports of a selection of the first 6 classic Kirby games.
Also included on the game disc are 13 new challenge stages based on the Wii game Kirby's Return to Dream Land, an interactive timeline of Kirby's history where one can read about and watch movies related to the various Kirby games, and three episodes of the anime series Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.
The collection also includes both a soundtrack CD featuring tracks from numerous Kirby games spanning across the entire series, and a 45 page special collectible book containing various artwork and other behind-the-scenes information and content covering Kirby's history.[4]
Game Disc
The following games are included on the game disc:[4]
- Kirby's Dream Land
- Kirby's Adventure
- Kirby's Dream Land 2
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby's Dream Land 3
- Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
The game disc also includes 13 new challenge stages based on the Wii game Kirby's Return to Dream Land. These stages give Kirby one Copy Ability to work with, and focus on score rather than only on completion of the stage. Kirby gets a score on how much enemies he has defeated, how much time there is left on the clock, and how much stars he has collected. Kirby loses points if he gets hit. At the end of the run, Kirby is given a ranking based on how much overall points he has, which is, from lowest to highest, bronze, silver, gold, platinum. These challenges are divided into three areas, which are Happiness Hall, Apricot Atrium, and Last Land, which has very...unique... challenges. Like in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, the letters of all the names spell a word. This time, the word is HAL. Each level also contains a boss stage, where Kirby races against Magolor and can use all the copy abilities from the area, or from all challenge stages depending on which area it is. In the last area, there are two boss stages, the regular one and the EX one, which is unlocked with another EX challenge. There is a small story to the stages, where Magolor has built a theme park for Kirby. He acknowledges the events from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, as well as talking about the challenges. He leaves after the credits end, in the boundaries of the story. Unlike in Kirby's Return to Dream Land the unknown reader can use a Gamecube controller to play the challenge stages.
In addition, the disc contains an interactive Kirby history timeline where players can watch and read about all of the Kirby games so far released. The timeline includes worldwide events that happened nearly the same time a Kirby game is released. Also, if players select a game from the timeline, they can view a short clip on a Kirby game or play it if it is included in the disc. Also, they can view view the box of the game in a panoramic mode. Meanwhile, a theme directly from the game plays. Included along with the history are three episodes from the Kirby anime, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.[4]
