In some titles in the Kirby series - particularly multiplayer titles - there are a number of Alternate Costumes that can be unlocked and used to distinguish the in-game characters from each-other. These are distinct from simple palette swaps in that they give the character a distinguishing article to wear. With little exception, these cosmetic changes do not affect actual in-game performance.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe

Alternate Costumes in Kirby Fighters Deluxe are called Rare Outfits, which are unlocked by completing the Single Player Mode with the respective Copy Abilities on 'Very Hard' difficulty.

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe

In this game,King Dedede can gain masks based on characters in the series.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Scanning these amiibo figures of the Kirby series will give Kirby special costumes in addition to Copy Abilities:

• King Dedede amiibo gives the Hammer ability with a King Dedede costume;
• Meta Knight amiibo gives the Sword ability with a Meta Knight costume;
• Waddle Dee amiibo gives the Parasol ability with a Bandana Waddle Dee costume.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe

Main article: Magolor's Shoppe

In this free-to-start title, each role of Team Kirby can be outfitted with gear in the form of headgear and weaponry. These pieces of equipment affect the Kirbys' performance in battle, augmenting various stats such as damage, Fragment drop rate, and team meteor damage.

Kirby Battle Royale

This multiplayer battle game features at least three alternate costumes for each Copy Ability and character (referred to as Headgear). Each of these need to be unlocked using Battle Coins obtained by fighting in battles. There are a small number of hats that can only be obtained using amiibo, however. Despite the name 'Headgear', other accessories - such as the weapon and additional costume pieces - can be included.

As of now, downloadable abilities - such as Mirror - do not have alternate costumes.
