Another Dimension (sometimes formatted as "another dimension") is the name given to a strange eerie alternate dimension featured many times in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It is the home of the Sphere Doomers, as well as several very powerful parallel versions of bosses from Kirby's native dimension. Whenever Kirby and his friends are tasked to enter this dimension, it is usually in order to stop some powerful villains from wreaking havoc in Kirby's home dimension.

Another Dimension is characterized by large empty spaces filled with strange swirling patterns and energy. It can be seen as closely linked to Kirby's native dimension in that several images and impressions of places from said dimension will appear in the background of Another Dimension. Where there is solid ground, it is usually depicted as glowing yellow blocky formations which often shift and can easily crush when doing so. Large spiky star-shaped hazards also float freely in this area, making it generally hostile to navigate through. When visiting an area in Another Dimension resembling one from the main dimension, it is often depicted in a monochrome fashion, though this is temporarily undone whenever a Sphere Doomer is defeated.

It is stated several times, particularly in the Japanese versions, that Another Dimension is beyond both time and space.

Kirby and other characters are capable of opening rifts to Another Dimension from their home dimension using sufficiently powerful attacks or advanced ancient technology. It is implied that such visits can only last a short while, as often, a wall of energy will push in toward Kirby and his allies which will crush them if they take too long.

Game appearances

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Throughout Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake, star-shaped rifts leading to Another Dimension can be opened by using Super Abilities, usually when a very large object has been destroyed with said ability. These dimensions appear monochrome (or use washed-out colors in the case of Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe) and have moving purple walls that threaten to crush Kirby should he not move fast. In these sections, Kirby has to make use of his normal abilities to progress quickly through these sections. In some circumstances, Kirby may attempt to push the moving wall back by using Star Bullets.

At the end of an interdimensional segment, Kirby usually battles a Sphere Doomer that drops a pair of Energy Spheres upon defeat. This results in color being restored to the area, and Kirby and friends can exit back to the regular stage by entering another dimensional rift. The music for these sections is also appropriately named "Another Dimension".

Later in the adventure, after Magolor betrays Kirby and his friends, he exits through a portal to Another Dimension with the intent of befalling Planet Popstar to his rule, supposedly stranding them in Halcandra. However, Landia offers a ride for Kirby and friends by letting them ride on his back to pursue Magolor through the portal. Throughout the entirety of the Another Dimension level, Kirby and friends ride fly through several side-scrolling shooter segments, while also dealing with moving walls, Sphere Doomer-like creatures, and pulsating crystals. Eventually, Kirby and friends do battle with Magolor in an eerie, glowing area with Popstar visible through a distant rift. After the friends defeat Magolor's second form, the surrounding dimension begins to collapse, and Landia comes to the rescue to bring them home, with the Lor Starcutter also following and ensuring stability of the portal ahead.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, most of Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler takes place deep within Another Dimension, with its surrounding dimensions featuring some degree of color tint corresponding to the theming of its many stages. Many of the mode's stages also feature Darpas, Dippas, Dupas, and Deppas, which were originally exclusive to the Another Dimension level. These dimensions are also home to different elemental bosses and the Rampaging Doomers, although their relationship with parallel bosses is unknown. Eventually, Magolor escapes through a dimensional rift at the end of the mode, which takes him to the Dream Kingdom.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

In the Kirby Fighters Sub-Game, the last fight against Shadow Kirby takes place in Another Dimension, even using the same music as in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. This Battle Stage can also be selected for play in Training.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

The pause screen text for Holo Doomers 2.0 makes mention of Another Dimension when referring to the Sphere Doomers, however it is unknown where and when did Susie encounter them during her travels. Star Dream also appears to be capable of opening rifts to this dimension, which is how it summoned Galacta Knight in Meta Knightmare Returns. During the battle with Galacta Knight, he will occasionally open a rift to Another Dimension as an attack, with the Lor Starcutter occasionally making an appearance in this rift.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe & Super Kirby Clash

A few of the bosses, specifically Greater Doomer, Parallel Landia and Parallel Susie, hail from what is presumed to be Another Dimension. In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, the Black Mirror is used as a gateway between dimensions. In Super Kirby Clash, the main villain Parallel Nightmare also hails from Another Dimension. Just like in Kirby: Planet Robobot, Aeon Hero can open up a rift to Another Dimension as an attack, with the Jamba Heart also appearing in the background.

Kirby Star Allies

The final major update to Kirby Star Allies adds a new mode to the game, Heroes in Another Dimension. In this mode, Kirby and friends travel through different dimensions taking place within Another Dimension, collecting Friend Hearts and battling parallel bosses as they go. The rift here is opened by Hyness' continuous praying at the altar in The Divine Terminus, and more of these rifts are opened as the player progresses throughout this mode.

In the same update, the Divine Terminus in Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! has a pool in the floor features the background of Another Dimension. Defeating Hyness in this mode will cause him to sink into the pool, a subtle hint towards the events of Heroes in Another Dimension.

The Japanese pause screen text for Morpho Knight EX states that it comes from Another Dimension.

Similar realms

Elfilin opening a star-shaped rift in order to reunite with Kirby at the end of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

• In the New Challenge Stages, the last couple Magolor Races take place in an area which greatly resembles Another Dimension.
• Some of the backgrounds in the rest areas for The True Arena in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe feature backgrounds resembling Another Dimension, usually in the final stretches of the mode.
• In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, various backgrounds in Decisive Battlefield and the Dreamscape feature elements from Another Dimension, including its warped grid background and pulsating crystals.
• The space within the massive vortex of rifts between the New World and Popstar seen at the beginning of the game greatly resembles Another Dimension. Additionally this rift and the ones later created by Fecto Elfilis and Elfilin, the rifts into Treasure Roads, and the rift into the isolated isles of Forgo Dreams externally resemble rifts into Another Dimension, though more ragged and sharp in appearance.
• Treasure Roads exist within a different reality, and like Another Dimension, they can only be visited for a short time and contain a specific challenge.
• The isolated isles of Forgo Dreams also resemble Another Dimension, though as the name implies, they are stated to be some form of psychic projection of Fecto Forgo's dreams. Interestingly, the final stage's theme, "Scattered Souls across Isolated Isles", is a remix of "Another Dimension", and the new updated look of Another Dimension stretches in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe appears to borrow inspiration from the mode.

Travel to Another Dimension

While there is no clear idea on how travel to and from Another Dimension is performed, it is often done by means of opening a rift there using specific powerful artifacts or techniques. The following is a list of every such entity/technique which has been proven to open such rifts:
