Melman's main personality traits stem from his advanced age, and he spends much of his time complaining about the physical complications that result from this. He often has a slouched-over appearance, and his face is dominated by his extremely long beard and eyebrows which cover his eyes most of the time. He is somewhat cranky and aloof, but is regardless studious, determined, and a good Samaritan. He is also surprisingly durable for his age, as he often has to recover from being run over by people on the road, whether intentionally or not.
 
In [[Born to Be Mild - Part II]], Melman is revealed to have once been a legendary biker named Steppenwolf. In this role, Melman shows off his incredible skill with a motorbike, being able to steer deftly around and jump over obstacles and parry attacks from the villainous biker [[Fang]].
