Mariel is a spider-like enemy made out of Dark Matter, it debuted in Kirby's Dream Land 3. Mariel starts out as a black sphere resting on the ground, but as soon as Kirby approaches it, it grows some thin, long spider-like legs and opens it's tiny, white eyes and begins to walk around on top of the platform it is on. Mariels appear to be venomous, as inhaling and swallowing one reduces Kirby's health meter by one bar.

Mariels make their first appearance in Kirby's Dream Land 3. In this game, they can sometimes be found resting directly in front of doors, making them hard to see due to their black color. Any attack can defeat them.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Mariels reappear in The Crystal Shards. Here, they look and behave similarly as in their first appearance, though they bodies have what appears to be hair or fur growing from them. Just like in Kirby's Dream Land 3, they can be defeated using any attack.

Mariel is the third enemy painted and brought to life by Adeleine during the fight with her while she is possessed by Dark Matter.
