In-game sprite.

Boten is an enemy appearing exclusively in Kirby's Dream Land 3. It resembled a round, green blob with a pair of round black eyes and a number of thick, bluish spikes surrounding most of its upper half. Its artwork additionally shows elongated, yellow spots adorning its body, though these are not seen in the game.

Resting atop cacti found primarily in Sand Canyon, Botens initially disguise themselves as an inanimate part of the plant, but as soon as Kirby gets too close to them, they reveal their true form, stick out their spikes and drop down from their seat. On the ground, a Boten slowly moves towards Kirby, stopping at regular intervals to briefly take cover and enlarge its prickles in a defensive gesture.

Botens are vulnerable to any attack. Inhaling and swallowing one grants Kirby the Needle ability.
