Another Dimension is characterized by large empty spaces filled with strange swirling patterns and energy. It can be seen as closely linked to Kirby's native dimension in that several images and impressions of places from said dimension will appear in the background of Another Dimension. Where there is solid ground, it is usually depicted as glowing yellow blocky formations which often shift and can easily [[Crusher|crush]] when doing so. Large spiky star-shaped hazards also float freely in this area, making it generally hostile to navigate through. It is stated several times, particularly in the Japanese versions, that Another Dimension is beyond both time and space.

Some areas in Another Dimension take place in those that resemble parts of Kirby's home dimension, depicted with monochromatic or washed-out colors. In ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'' and its [[Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe|remake]], these areas usually have purple (magenta in [[Extra Mode]]) walls that serve as a [[Crusher|crushing hazard]] for Kirby and friends should they not move fast, in addition to a battle with a [[Sphere Doomer]] at the end. Another Dimension has been referred to with several varying terms throughout the series since ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'', and this characteristic is even more prominent in the Japanese versions of said games. For reference, the term used to refer to Another Dimension in Japanese is "{{furi|異空間|いくうかん}}" (''ikūkan''), and localized English versions tend to refer to Another Dimension as such or in completely lowercase letters ("another dimension") or sometimes refer to it as an "extra dimension" as in the British translation of ''Kirby: Planet Robobot''. Throughout ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'' and its [[Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe|remake]], star-shaped rifts leading to Another Dimension can be opened by using [[Super Ability|Super Abilities]], usually when a very large object has been destroyed with said ability. These interdimensional stretches appear monochrome (or slightly washed-out in the case of ''Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe''). When Kirby enters a rift to Another Dimension, he automatically loses his current Super Ability and/or [[Copy Ability]], forcing him to make use of his [[Inhale]] and other normal moves throughout these sections. These stretches also have moving purple walls that threaten to [[Crusher|crush]] Kirby, and can be pushed back using [[Star Bullet]]s.

At the end of an interdimensional segment, Kirby usually battles a [[Sphere Doomer]] that drops a pair of Energy Spheres upon defeat. This results in color being restored to the area, and Kirby and friends can exit back to the regular stage by entering another [[dimensional rift]]. If Kirby is defeated while inside an interdimensional segment, he is forced out of the rift and has to start from the beginning if it is entered again. Later in the adventure, after [[Magolor]] betrays Kirby and his friends, he exits through a rift to Another Dimension with the intent of befalling Planet Popstar to his rule, supposedly stranding Kirby and friends in [[Halcandra]]. However, [[Landia]] offers to let them ride on his back and pursue Magolor through the portal. Throughout the entirety of the [[Another Dimension (level)|Another Dimension]] level, Kirby and friends ride fly through several side-scrolling shooter segments, while also dealing with moving walls, Sphere Doomer-like creatures, and pulsating crystals. Eventually, Kirby and friends do battle with [[Traitor Magolor|Magolor]] in an eerie, glowing area with Popstar visible through a distant rift. After the friends defeat Magolor's [[Magolor (second form)|second form]], the surrounding dimension begins to collapse, and Landia comes to the rescue to bring them home, with the [[Lor Starcutter]] also following and ensuring stability of the rift ahead.

[[Star Dream]] also appears to be capable of opening rifts to this dimension, which is how it summoned [[Galacta Knight]] in [[Meta Knightmare Returns]]. During the battle with Galacta Knight, he will occasionally open a rift to Another Dimension as an attack, with the [[Lor Starcutter]] occasionally making an appearance in this rift.

The final major update to ''Kirby Star Allies'' adds a new mode to the game, [[Heroes in Another Dimension]]. In this mode, Kirby and friends travel through different dimensions taking place within Another Dimension, collecting [[Friend Heart]]s and battling parallel bosses as they go. The rift here is opened by Hyness' continuous praying at the altar in [[The Divine Terminus]], and more of these rifts are opened as the player progresses throughout this mode.

In the same update, [[The Divine Terminus]] in [[Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!]] has a pool in the floor that features the background of Another Dimension. Defeating [[Hyness]] in this mode will cause him to sink into the pool, a subtle hint towards the events of [[Heroes in Another Dimension]].

The Japanese pause screen text for [[Morpho Knight|Morpho Knight EX]] states that it comes from Another Dimension.

There are several bosses that originate from Another Dimension which are categorized as "parallel bosses", which are extremely powerful counterparts to bosses existing within Kirby's home dimension. Like most stronger variants, parallel bosses are depicted with an alternate color scheme, usually with a dark palette (as demonstrated prominently on [[Parallel Landia]] and [[Parallel Woods]]). It is often the case that parallel bosses have a very high amount of [[health]] and feature a variety of more difficult attacks to further present a challenge to the player.

The names of parallel bosses are usually prefixed with "Parallel" in English and the French, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese localizations deriving from it. However, the Japanese, German, Italian and Korean versions use the prefix "Another" while the Chinese versions use "Another Dimension", which further reinforce the relation of these bosses to Another Dimension itself.

Parallel bosses are not to be confused with other bosses that originate from Another Dimension but are not based on existing bosses, such as [[Grand Doomer]] and the [[Rampaging Doomers]].
