"Intermezzo Without a Leader" is the name of a musical piece which first plays during the second phase of the battle with Star Dream in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
Composition
"Intermezzo Without a Leader" is a baleful theme in A minor and 4/4 which begins with space-like ambience followed by low G major brass notes intensifying the climate of the piece before reaching the intro's climax. As its name states, it is the intermezzo of the Star Dream battle themes that precedes "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection", the third phase boss theme composed by Hirokazu Ando. The whole melody is similar to "0² Battle", another theme composed by Jun Ishikawa: both melodies of the themes alternate between large minor intervals while slowly fluctuating between the scale at a rhythmic pace. This track's melody, which is composed of futuristic synths, executes said progression boldly in half-speed; in other words, plays an dominant-thirteenth interval per bar. On top of that, it is consecutive throughout. As the track progresses, more synths and brass convene to spiral the apprehensiveness of the atmosphere as they carry out one more climactic A minor note. The thumping percussion acts as the theme's resolution to calm the atmosphere and loop the track.
