- This article is about the theme music for Big Forest in Kirby's Dream Land 2. For the level itself, see Big Forest.
Big Forest[1] is the primary theme which plays in the corresponding level Big Forest in Kirby's Dream Land 2. It was composed by Tadashi Ikegami.
Composition
The Big Forest theme plays at roughly 180 beats per minute in a 4/4 time signature. It is generated within the game itself using the Game Boy's programmable sound generator. It begins with a short introductory statement which lasts about 4 seconds before proceeding into the main portion of the song, which lasts about 44 seconds before looping and is split into two equally-sized verses.
Game appearances
Kirby's Dream Land 2
This music appears in the Big Forest stage of Kirby's Dream Land 2. It plays during the introductory cut-scene for the level, leading into the first time Kirby visits the Level Hub, and also plays as the default music within the first three stages themselves. Due to Coo's presence within the level, much of it is played under Coo's Theme instead.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
A remix of this song can be unlocked by collecting one of the Treasure Chests found in the Deep-Divin' Kirby Submarine stage, to then be played in the Music Room. While very similar to the original, not counting the different soundfont, it has some differences, such having as a longer intro, and a slightly slower tempo.
Kirby's Dream Buffet
The original version of "Big Forest" is available as a Gourmet Rank reward in Kirby's Dream Buffet. It is unlocked at Rank 34. This game is the first to confirm that the theme was composed by Tadashi Ikegami.
Other appearances
The Big Forest theme is featured in Track 9: Beyond the Forest and the Desert of the Kirby Memorial Arrangements, the second CD of the Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert 2-CD set.
