Regarding file uploading[edit]

Greetings, BasicPerson. You are new here, so I figure I should direct you to information about proper file uploading on WiKirby, since the file you uploaded did not meet current quality standards. First you'll want to check the formatting file pages help page (in particular, learning how to use the aboutfile template and adding sources). Second, you'll want to check the image standards page to learn what we're looking for in terms of image quality. Please let me or another staff member know if you have any questions. It may be helpful for you to join the Discord server so you can talk with us more directly. Cheers. --Samwell (talk) 23:39, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I did look at these help pages after you deleted my file. I probably should have looked into the guidelines before I tried uploading. This was a mistake on my part. I decided to try to re-upload my file after looking at those guidelines. However, when I tried uploading the only thing I got was an error message and I have been unable to upload files since then (I even tried a different computer). Do you know a way to fix this or should I ask tech support? Thanks for the help! Sincerely, --BasicPerson (talk) 23:51, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Hmm, it might help if you described what the error looked like. If you got on Discord, you'd be able to share a screenshot of the error message, and that'll give us a better idea of what you are running into. Also, just so you know, you can quickly sign your talk page posts with name, date, and time by typing four tildes ~~~~ after your post. --Samwell (talk) 01:20, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Here is the exact message that I get when attempting to upload a file: [6a87fcb2079ab80efa6b8ab2] 2022-03-08 02:04:10: Fatal exception of type "Error"
I hope this helps! --BasicPerson (talk) 02:07, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
I see. We'll have a look into it, but we might need to ask more questions about it later. We'll let you know here. --Samwell (talk) 02:14, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
So, I've been informed that a few fixes have gone on in the wiki's backend. You should try uploading your file again. If it still doesn't work, please tell us what kind of file you were uploading, what the file name was, how big the file was, and when you got the error message. --Samwell (talk) 17:16, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Image quality[edit]

So, I've seen your most recent upload: File:Smash Ride Top Screen.png. It looks okay, but the image size is quite large, certainly not native resolution. The native resolution for Kirby: Squeak Squad would be a 1 to 1 pixel ratio of 256 by 192 pixels. Do you think you would be able to recapture at that resolution? --Samwell (talk) 23:26, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

I see you've made the change. It looks a lot better now! You seem to have the ability to capture natively for Kirby: Squeak Squad, which is sorely needed around here. I have a job for you, if you are willing. --Samwell (talk) 23:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the help! What is the job? --BasicPerson (talk) 23:41, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
So right now, I have a proposal that was intended to excuse our Kirby: Squeak Squad stage page images for being jpg. However, if you were to go through the game and replace those with png recaptures, that would permanently solve the problem and make everyone happy. It would be a lot to replace, but if you are up to the task, it would be a good way to quickly earn an Autopatrol badge from a grateful Bureaucrat. :P You can find the images by taking a look at each stage page starting with Prism Plains - Stage 1, or by going into this category. Does that sound like something you'd be up to do with the understanding that it might take a little while? --Samwell (talk) 23:46, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
I guess I should clarify though, all the Prism Plains screenshots are already PNG and ideal quality. You'd actually be starting from Nature Notch. --Samwell (talk) 23:48, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Yes I could do that, just to clarify though, are you talking about just the stage images? --BasicPerson (talk) 23:51, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
That's the main thing, though there might be some others. I can let you know about any of those when you are done, or you can check for yourself by looking at Category:Low quality images. It's also worth mentioning that some of the images that need replacing are technially PNG already, but they were converted from JPG rather than recaptured, so they need to be replaced too. --Samwell (talk) 23:53, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
I will get that started soon, I might not make much progress until my Spring Break rolls around though. I will try my best! --BasicPerson (talk) 23:56, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
No worries. I look forward to those first images, whenever those may be. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions along the way. --Samwell (talk) 23:57, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Few more pointers on KSqS images[edit]

Howdy. Good work on getting new stage images for Nature Notch. You're making good progress so far. I'd like to point out a few things though before you continue:

  • When you upload more screenshots, you don't need to fill out the media parameter. Instead, all you need to do is put the full name of the game (in this case: Kirby: Squeak Squad) in the "game" parameter.
  • Make sure you are checking the screenshots in the "Treasures" section of the page as well. Some of the ones for Nature Notch are already good, but others need replacing as well. You'll want to grab shots of those areas as well so you don't have to backtrack later. The remaining level and stage pages will also have treasure screenshots that need replacing.
  • Before you mark an old file for deletion, ideally you should have a look at where that file links to in the wiki (this can be seen at the bottom of the file page). Head to those pages, find the old file link, and replace it with the new file.

Let me know if any of this doesn't make sense. You're doing good so far. --Samwell (talk) 15:10, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Would you like me to make a new save file so that the chests are their normal color? Thank you for the help! --BasicPerson (talk) 23:07, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
It's not absolutely necessary, but you can if you want. --Samwell (talk) 23:17, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

regarding website archiving[edit]

i didnt really know who to ask about this so i just went to the first moderator on the ranks page i found. but the question is where exactly should the link to an archived version of a website be placed. im trying to start going through the list of needed websites to be archived, i know how to archive it but i dont know where to place the link to the archived version in the page. could you help explain how i am to go about placing the archived link?

-cOnNoReXiStS (talk) 16:22, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello there. I believe you are referring to the archive project, and if you are then you do not need to put the links on the wiki pages. The archive is made externally and is not on the wiki itself. This means that when you make the archive, the only thing you have to do on the wiki is this page and delete the link to the page you archived. If you need anymore help you can come to me or any other staff member. --Basic Person (talk/contribs) 20:51, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, that was exactly what i was trying to do. but since youve actually seen this, are there any other things that you would recommend for me to do to try and get better with wiki editing and trying to get to the auto patrol rank.-ConnorExists (talk) 21:00, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
Well, you can always check out our maintenance page or Project Clean-up to find things to do. --Basic Person (talk/contribs) 22:20, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
