Talk:List of rumors of ancient civilizations in the Kirby series

I noticed most of the writing on this page is purely made up of speculation; something we don't cover on the wiki. The only truly official mention of the ancients was from Magolor in Return to Dream Land, and even then he didn't say too much about them. Everything else seems to be vague hints that may or may not regard them. Because of this, I suggest that this page be deleted. If the ancients are more fleshed-out in the future, perhaps we can bring back this page.

For now, I think the List of mysteries page gives it enough justice for the time being, and any official details on this page that are missing can be added to it if needed:

"In several instances, an ancient interstellar race is mentioned by characters (often villains) throughout the series. These ancients were said to have left behind many of the more powerful artifacts in the series, though their appearance, motive, and fate are still unknown."

I'm conflicted about this. On the one hand this page is made of mostly speculation, but on the other hand not condemming them to the List of mysteries also seems wrong. There is a bit of confirmed info for them. I'd say this page would rather need to be rewritten than to be deleted. Infinite Possibilities (talk) 18:59, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Given the nature of the subject matter, this page is going to inherently be speculative, which goes against current policy. At the same time, not having this page would be a cause for concern among the readers, as the Ancients are undoubtedly a central part of the Kirby series lore, even if not much is known about them directly (which is kind of the point). Perhaps what we ought to do instead of deleting this page is rename it to something like "Rumors of ancient civilizations in the Kirby series" and then give an account of each time they are brought up in dialogue or flavor text. --Samwell (talk) 19:16, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Also, I should point out that "almost entirely made up of speculation" is not a valid reason to delete a page. It would have been better to tag this with the rewrite template instead. --Samwell (talk) 19:20, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
There isn't really enough material to do a rewrite of this page that doesn't consist of speculation, though. Wouldn't it be better to merge this in with the List of mysteries page? StrawberryChan (talk) 21:10, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
I was thinking if we included other references to ancient civilizations mentioned in text, such as the one on the page currently about the builders of the Rock Star pyramid, Daroach's comments on the builders of the ruins in Sandy canyon, and others, we could make a nice decent-length list of quotes that could warrant its own page. Naturally, the page would not be trying to discuss a singular ancient civilization anymore, but it would still be a good place to keep all those references the games have thrown at us that won't balloon too large for a single entry in the List of mysteries page. --Samwell (talk) 21:13, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Hmm, I suppose so. At that point, it would basically be an entirely new page, yeah. StrawberryChan (talk) 21:16, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Yeah it would probably be best to move this to "Ancient civilizations" or something and cover all of them on one page. ---PinkYoshiFan 21:21, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, this is definitely a tricky subject. The ancients are definitely central to Kirby lore, but pretty much everything about Kirby lore is inherently speculative. But the page that Samwell proposed sounds like a good idea for sure, and if we can gather enough quotes to allow the page to stand alone, it sounds like a suitable alternative. --YFJ (talk · edits) 21:52, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Yes. This is a reasonable alternative. Probably should've thought of it, myself. -- Jellytost (talk) 06:09, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Bump. I still agree with making this a page that covers all ancient civilizations. ---PinkYoshiFan 16:13, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Bump 2 ---PinkYoshiFan 23:43, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
So should we go ahead and just make this a page that covers all ancient civilizations then? ---PinkYoshiFan 19:23, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
That would make the most sense, though how to make the page good to look at with all these seemingly random quotes of several ancient civilications is beyond me. Would each have their different sections and how could those be named? Infinite Possibilities (talk) 19:44, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
It may be useful to split the article's contents up by going over mentions of ancient civilizations by game, since it would be an infeasible task to try and decide which civilizations are which based on the quotes and ruins themselves. I can take a crack at reorganizing this page by that line later if nobody objects. --Samwell (talk) 19:39, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Seems reasonable enough to me, and it doesn't look like anyone objects, so feel free to give it a shot. -- Jellytost (talk) 06:39, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
Alright, all done rewriting and moving this page. --Samwell (talk) 06:42, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Typo[edit]

My bad, I was trying to fix the typo of "Fecto Formo" and since the h key is close to the g key, I accidentally put "Fecto Forho" instead of "Fecto Forgo". Ultimate Kirb (talk)00:32, 28 March 2021 (UTC)}}

No worries! Happens to the best of us, haha. StarPunch (talk) 08:08, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Split into "New World language"[edit]

So with the revelation of more words of the language and their meanings, I feel that the language of the New World has enough information and is big enough to get its own dedicated page. We have a whole alphabet, which is used through the whole world of the game, a whole song sang in the language, and a couple words with meanings. All we are lacking is the name of the language, but I believe that even without one it is important enough to have its own dedicated page. - Gigi (talkedits) 17:54, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

I agree to split it by the reasons that you said. I think that having a completely translatable alphabet of a fictional language is enough reason to make it its own page, and by seeing that it is used across the whole game, that it has some exclusive words, and that there is a whole song sung in it, it makes a lot of sense having a page just for it. -Zolerian (talk | contribs) 18:57, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Agreed. It's the language used for everything in the game that was left by the previous civilization (except for the dream discoveries tour, but that has the in-universe "automatic language detection"). As for the title, is there a font or something used for the song subtitles that we could get an internal data name from? ---PinkYoshiFan 20:29, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
There could also be a subpage for transcriptions of all of the readable new world text found in the levels and on objects.2600:1700:95C0:4900:EDB4:620D:C08B:3461 23:18, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

I'm not really sure about transcription subpage. Most of text has already been complied here, and I didn't find anything interesting or worth noting.

Anyway, as the Jamba people language is just as big, maybe we could instead create "Fictional languages of Kirby series"? This way, we could avoid conjectural name, and it doesn't really make sense (for me) to split off one but not the other too. Superbound (talk) 13:18, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

That sounds like it could work. ---PinkYoshiFan 13:21, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
Bump ---PinkYoshiFan 17:58, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Few people, including the original proposer, also stated their support for the fictional language page on Discord, so I think that if nobody object in a week or something I'll handle the split. Superbound (talk) 07:56, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Done. Superbound (talk) 10:27, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
