Name Source?[edit]

Does anyone know the source of her being called "Blob"? Or is it a fan-made name? I recall hearing someone say that in an English guide for KDL2, Gooey was called "Blob", while this character was called "female Blob", and that's were the name came from, but I haven't been able to verify this myself.

Edit: I have since found the image taken from Nintendo Power that refers to her as "Girl blob" (with Gooey being called "blob"), but of course that does not prove "Blob" as her official name, nor if this might be the reason why fans call her "Blob". If anyone knows more, it would be nice to know. Kaialone (talk) 08:38, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Sorry to bump this again, but I see that this page has since been suggested to be moved to "Girl blob", so I would like to discuss that suggestion. Personally, I would be in favor of it, since that excerpt from Nintendo Power seems to be the closest to an official name that exists. Though it is a bit unfortunate that the picture doesn't say which issue of it this is from. But in any case, if this article were to be moved to "Girl blob", it should also be explained that this name was used in a context where "blob" was used to refer to Gooey in KDL2. I added the rename tag in light of your comment to hopefully draw more people to this discussion. It seems that "Girl blob" is the only official English name for this character, and no one has responded with another source. At this point, moving the page sounds like the most viable option. And yes, I would agree that the article should mention the context of the name with the move. On a related note, the "Girl" part of the name is curiously capitalized for every instance of the name, while "blob" is never capitalized. Perhaps her name is just "Girl"? -YFJ (talk · edits) 15:28, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
This character is not in the Japanese version of the game (it might be interesting to research which countries used her and which used the original Chao?), so it's hard to find out what's "official" regarding her. I think "Girl" being capitalized doesnt mean her name is "Girl", because then they probably would've phrased it as "a blob named Girl", or "Girl the blob". I think it's a case where "Girl" is used attributively, like how you might say "this is a girl cat" to specify that the cat in question is a girl. Kaialone (talk) 08:24, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I'd honestly prefer we actually merge the information to Gooey (since it's clearly derivative of his sprite and the Nintendo Power writer didn't know the name and interpreted them as nonspecific blob characters) or maybe Chao (since she's functionally identical and was somewhat recurring). To me, having a separate article for this subject is like having separate articles for Mint Leaf and Sweet Potato - it ultimately amounts to an aesthetic regional change, so that content can fit in the same page like how those two are handled. The "Girl blob" seems like the Nintendo Power writer had nothing else to go off of, though it's better than the current title. AdieuLain (talk) 03:42, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
I think if "Girl Blob" is the only name we have, we should leave it as that. The article should be left unmerged. She's clearly a separate character, which is also shown in the sound test image. --DeepFriedCabbage 02:22, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
After over a month, I believe it is time to close this debate for now. After reviewing the points made, I think it is pertinent to move this page to Girl blob and leave it at that. I hear the argument made by AdieuLain, and while I do think it is helpful to note that Girl blob is derivative of Gooey, I do not think it is sound to then conclude that they are not separate characters. If anything, the natural conclusion to this observation in my mind would be to merely note that Nintendo Power referred to Gooey as "Blob" in Kirby's Dream Land 2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fubaka (talkcontribs) .
