Name change?[edit]

It's been a while since I first made this page with the name in question. I had hoped it would be a creative way to distinguish the different forms of Queen Sectonia, since the game itself fails to do so with a name change. Now that we've updated the naming policy, however, I think we should change the name of this article to something more fitting like Queen Sectonia (second form) or something like that. However, I'd like if someone could find an official alternate name for this form in the game files or something, if such a thing exists. --Fubaka (talk) 03:10, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Makes sense, and should there be a move tag? ---PinkYoshiFan 00:16, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
Not yet, since I have not decided on exactly what I want to move it to or merge it with. I'd still like to hear if there's an unofficial "official" name for this particular boss somewhere in the game's files. --Fubaka (talk) 00:22, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
Alright, I am going to place a move tag on this page to a new article named Queen Sectonia (second form). I will give a few days before enacting this change, in case anyone wants to suggest a different solution. Before anyone asks though, I don't want to merge this article with the main Queen Sectonia one, since that page is already pretty long. --Fubaka (talk) 19:56, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Revert to Queen Sectonia (second form)[edit]

While I understand that it's more convenient to refer to this form as Flowered Sectonia, I think it's a misnomer: "Flowered Sectonia" appears to be the internal data name for Sectonia's flower minions, which are called セクトニアフラワード (Sectonia Flowered) in official Japanese material. This is likely also the reason it was renamed "Sectonia's Flower" in the British version. Sectonia's flower body is called the セントラルフラワー (Central Flower) in Japanese material (as seen by the attack names we have listed), so this would be consistent with the idea that her consciousness is spread across the entire Dreamstalk. With that in mind, I would prefer to go for total accuracy ("Queen Sectonia" is the name of the entire entity, consisting of the "Central Flower" and the flower minions named "Flowered Sectonia") over assuming the name was meant to be used for this form as a whole. Agreed, if Flowered Sectonia was the name of this form (as opposed to an enemy whose name is never shown in-game) then they probably would have used it in-game. ---PinkYoshiFan 02:26, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
Personally I'm torn on this one. Flowered Sectonia mimics Traitor Magolor in a sense although I also realize we have Magolor (second form) which is similar to "Queen Sectonia (second form)", I still wonder about that internal name and I would want to dig into it better. Hence, was this internal name actually meant to be for all of Sectonia after all? So, before I form a proper opinion, I would like that to get investigated further. - Gigi (talkedits) 18:37, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
I did some digging myself, here are my findings:
  • "Flowered Sectonia" is found in the file GameInfo.msbt, under the name "BossNameSectniaflower".
  • The internal name "Sectniaflower" is also found in other files:
    • In gfx\STD\Step\Weapon there is a Sectniaflower folder. It contains two files: DeathBloomLaser.bch.cmp and FinalLaser.bch.cmp. This folder also has other folders named after Sectonia: Queensectnia, QueensectniaEx, Sectniabud, Sectniasoul, Sectniasoulbud, Sectniavine
    • In gfx\STD\Step\Enemy there is also a Sectniaflower folder. Other folders named after Sectonia in that folder are Queensectnia and Sectniabud.
    • In gfx\STD\Step\Gimmick there is a file named SectniaFlower.bch.cmp. Other files in that same folder related to Sectonia are QueenDiamond.bch.cmp (with Ex, Mini and MiniEx variations), SectniaRocket.bch.cmp, SectniaVineAim.bch.cmp, SectniaVineBG.bch.cmp.
From looking it appears the name internally does refer to only the flower part of Sectonia, and looking at some other files (like opening animation files) I couldn't find any other info. Unless I missed something I couldn't find any collective name for the whole second form at least internally. - Gigi (talkedits) 21:48, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
I decided to investigate myself the gfx\STD\Step\Enemy \Sectniaflower folder. The main model file (Model.bch.cmp) is quite literally Queen Sectionia in her entire second form. The game consistently uses "Sectniaflower" to refer to Sectonia's second form without her minions, including Mint at RomFS\mint\StepLCharaSectniaflower.bin.cmp. Inside that very archive are animation scripts for her only and not for her minions. I believe it's safe to say "Flowered Sectonia" is the name for the second form. I'm also pointing out that the translated names, such as Spanish, follow a structure that directly states Sectonia herself is flowered (Sectonia Florida = Flowery Sectonia/Sectonia is Flowery). Internally, her minons are only referred to as "Sectniabud", as evidenced by their model files in RomFS\gfx\STD\Step\Enemy\Sectniabud, and the enemy Mint file at RomFS\mint\StepSChara.bin.cmp having a "Sectniabud" entry in Scn.Step.Schara. There's no "Sectniabud" entry in GameInfo.msbt, only a "Sectniaflower" one (BossNameSectniaflower). So yes, if I'm taking internal references and other factors in, I do believe "Flowered Sectonia" is meant for her second form and not her minions. The European English take on the name is simply weird. We also have to take in to account that the Korean and Japanese entries conserve "Queen Sectonia" as the name instead of renaming it to something like "Sectonia Flowered" or "Sectonia Bud". Hmm, that makes sense. Alright, I'm cool with that. No need to worry about this then! StarPunch (talk) 00:24, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
