Bombs are common items in the Kirby series. Almost without exception, they resemble common cartoon bombs - that is - black and blue spheres with a fuse on top. When tossed or spat, they explode on contact with enemies, dealing a large amount of damage.
Bombs were first seen in Kirby's Dream Land. They appear in fixed locations in certain stages, starting with Castle Lololo. Kirby can inhale them, but if he swallows them, nothing will happen. To use the bomb, Kirby has to spit it out, causing it to fly forward and explode, with a similar effect to a Penetrating Bullet. If left alone for too long, however, the bomb will blow up on its own.
In Kirby Air Ride, bombs appear as items in the Top Ride mode. Here, when picked up, Kirby gains the ability to toss up to six bombs in succession, knocking around any foe they hit. The bomb can be dropped prematurely if Kirby is hit, performs a Quick Spin, or falls into a stage hazard.
There are a number of special types of Bombs with their own names in various titles. Among them include the following:
- Balloon Bomb - A bomb from Kirby's Return to Dream Land which grows in size and power as it is carried.
- Sensor Bomb - A bomb that acts as a time/proximity mine in the City Trial mode of Kirby Air Ride.
- Timed Dynamite - A bundle of dynamite on a timer which appears in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Battle Royale.
