Whip is a Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, obtained by swallowing whip-related enemies. Whip Kirby looks like a cowboy, and attacks by lashing out his whip in several ways. The ability can be used to obtain items across solid walls, as Kirby's whip can go through them. This allows him to reach otherwise unreachable switches and stars.
Whip is a Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, obtained by swallowing whip-related enemies. Whip Kirby wears a red leather cowboy hat adorned with light blue stars. The brim has a yellow flower-like design and a brown thread keeping it together. Kirby attacks by lashing out his whip in several ways. The ability can be used to obtain items across solid walls, as Kirby's whip can go through them. This allows him to reach otherwise unreachable switches and stars. Kirby can also use the whip to grab enemies and items from a distance, and then toss the former around to defeat them, including tossing them at other enemies to deal collateral damage. This aspect makes the Whip ability a particularly potent one in the Kirby Fighters games.

The Whip ability debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and also appears in the remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, first appearing prominently in the Raisin Ruins stage. It allows Kirby to attack at a distance, and grab both items and enemies from a distance, even through walls and other obstacles. *The Whip ability appears to be a reference to the action-adventure film hero Indiana Jones, who wears a similar fedora to Whip Kirby and uses a bullwhip during many of his adventures. The Japanese description of the ability in Kirby: Triple Deluxe seems to further imply this, as its last sentence reads おたからもとめて たびに出て、ぼうけんかつげき まくあけだ! (Embark on a journey in search of treasure, the action-adventure film begins!)

That whip is cool and all... but the hat is where it's really at. Whip your enemies into shape! Wrap 'em up while you're at it!
— Knuckle Joe's comment in Kirby Battle Royale

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Kirby can use the Whip to grab items from behind barricades, as demonstrated in this side area in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

A Challenge Stage simply called the Whip Challenge is devoted to the Whip ability, which can be accessed once 25 Energy Spheres are collected.

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]

Whip appears again in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition as one of the available abilities in the New Challenge Stages Sub-Game. One of the stages is devoted specifically to the Whip ability, and Kirby can also use it to race Magolor in some of those stages if he so wishes.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Whip reappears as an ability in this title, functioning identically to the way it did in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It also makes an appearance as one of the abilities in Kirby Fighters.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe[edit]

Whip is one of the Copy Abilities which can be selected in Kirby Fighters Deluxe, looking and functioning identically to the way it did in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Its unlockable Rare Outfit is a black and golden recolor of the regular hat and whip.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

Whip appears in this title, along with a new enemy who provides it, an egg-shaped bandit named Wester, who can use the Whip Tornado to travel between planes.

Whip returns in this title, along with Wester, who can also serve as a Friend. Although the ability itself gains no new moves since its previous main-series appearance, Whip - like many other abilities - can be given a Power Effect to add an elemental bonus to attack.

Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

Whip appears in Kirby Fighters 2 as one of the selectable abilities for Kirby. It is unlocked upon attaining Fighters Rank 27, and plays largely the same as it does in previous games.

For more precise competitive-oriented information on the Whip ability in Kirby Fighters 2, see Mizuumi Wiki's page.

Trivia[edit]

 • The Whip ability appears to be a reference to the action-adventure film hero Indiana Jones, who wears a similar fedora to Whip Kirby and uses a bullwhip during many of his adventures. The Japanese description of the ability in Kirby: Triple Deluxe seems to further imply this, as its last sentence reads おたからもとめて たびに出て、ぼうけんかつげき まくあけだ! (Embark on a journey in search of treasure, the action-adventure film begins!)
