Water is a Copy Ability which debuted in Kirby: Right Back At Ya, but made it's first game appearence in Kirby's Return to Dream Land that can be obtained by swallowing water-related enemies. Water Kirby can surf on a form of water he creates, thus being able to easily traverse through lava. He can also neutralize lava blocks (though not lava itself) using the ability, making it a requirement to access some areas and Energy Spheres. Kirby can also spit water downwards and hover, destroying enemies along the way, as well as shoot water upwards. In addition, Water Kirby has a more powerful underwater attack, blowing out three water pulses rather than one. in Kirby Right Back at Ya Kirby wears a crown with the front symbolizing waves, on top of the crown is a wave, and Kirby's body was made out of water except the feet, but in later games starting with Kirby's Return to Dream Land, the crown has Atlantic symbols and on top is a cylinder of water.
Game Appearances
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Water debuted as an ability in this title. Kirby can get this ability chiefly by swallowing Water Galbo, Pluid or Water Galboros, though a few other sources exist as well. The main strength of Water is allowing Kirby to surf quickly over his foes, traverse fiery areas more safely, and gain an enhanced Water Gun underwater.
One of the Challenge Stages revolves around the Water Ability.

Skill | Button Execution | Description |
Wave Attack | Kirby spits a blob of water that travels along the ground and damages the first object it hits.

Wave Surf | Creates a large wave, giving Kirby a boost of speed and plowing over anything in the way. Like Surf, travels over water and lava.
Geyser | Kirby fires a blast of water straight up. Good vertical range (can hit any flying boss in their neutral position) but no horizontal range whatsoever.
Fountain Hover | Kirby blows a thin jet of water downwards, lifting himself into the air a constant distance off the ground. The move continues while the button is held. Kirby can move sideways during the move and also adjust his elevation by holding Up or Down.
Water Crown | A small blast of water at Kirby's feet.
Rainbow Rain | Kirby spreads his arms and produces a round blast of water that forms a rainbow above him. The move hits twice - once for the water blast and again for the rainbow itself.
Enhanced Water Gun | Kirby fires three water pulses with about double the range of his regular Water Gun. |
Kirby Star Allies
“ | A positively refreshing ability with many applications! Harness the waves and surf along the ground. Enjoy a powered-up version of the Water Gun and carry heavy stones with ease! And make sure you find out what happens if you freeze a fountain... | ” | — Kirby Star Allies pause caption |
After being absent from both Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot, Water returns in this title. The main enemy who provides this ability is Driblee, who also represents the Friend for that ability. It can be used in a number of Friend Abilities including Splash Curling and Icicle Lance. It also provides the Splash element to many other abilities.

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
Water actually first appeared as a Copy Ability in the anime series. It bore a somewhat different design to its later appearance in the games, giving Kirby a sightly different crown and making his body blue and translucent, but still had the essential function of Kirby using water to attack, including shooting a geyser from the top of his head.
Trivia
- Water was intended to appear in the cancelled GameCube game, which would have marked its first game appearance. Its design in the game resembled the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! one a lot more than the later Kirby's Return to Dream Land design.
