Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Although previously appearing in Kirby: Right Back at Ya! and the canceled Kirby for Nintendo GameCube, Water properly debuted as an ability in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and also appears in its remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. Kirby can get this ability chiefly by swallowing Water Galbo, Pluid or Water Galboros, though a few other sources exist as well. The main strength of Water is allowing Kirby to surf quickly over his foes, traverse fiery areas more safely, and gain an enhanced Water Gun underwater.

Water was intended to appear in the canceled Kirby for Nintendo GameCube game, which would have marked its first game appearance. Its design in the game resembled the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! one a lot more than the later Kirby's Return to Dream Land design.

Water actually first appeared as a Copy Ability in the anime series. It makes a single appearance in the episode Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II as the result of a Copy Ability design contest held in Japan (being submitted by Takahiro Tonoe from Aichi prefecture) though it is only used in a dream sequence, making its canonicity questionable. Kirby gains this ability by inhaling large amounts of water from the ocean.
Water actually first appeared as a Copy Ability in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. It makes a single appearance in the episode Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II as the result of it being one of the winners in the Japan-only Kirby of the Stars: New Ability Contest (being submitted by Takahiro Tonoe from Aichi prefecture). However, it is only used in a dream sequence, making its canonicity questionable. Kirby gains this ability by inhaling large amounts of water from the ocean.

Water Kirby in the anime bears a somewhat different design to his later appearance in the games. He has a sightly different crown and his body is blue and translucent. Despite this, the ability functions largely the same as it would later, as Kirby uses spouts of water from his mouth to attack. Notably, the ability allows him to use the Water Gun outside of water in this instance.

This article is about the Copy Ability. For the environmental feature, see Water (environment). For the course in Top Ride, see Water (course).

Water is a Copy Ability which makes its first game appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, obtained by swallowing water-related enemies. Water Kirby can surf on a form of water he creates, thus being able to easily traverse through lava. He can also neutralize lava blocks (though not lava itself) using the ability, making it a requirement to access some areas and Energy Spheres. Kirby can also spit water downwards and hover, destroying enemies along the way, as well as shoot water upwards. In addition, Water Kirby has a more powerful Water Gun, blowing out three water pulses rather than one.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Although previously appearing in Kirby: Right Back at Ya! and the canceled Kirby for Nintendo GameCube, Water properly debuted as an ability in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and also appears in its remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. Kirby can get this ability chiefly by swallowing Water Galbo, Pluid or Water Galboros, though a few other sources exist as well. The main strength of Water is allowing Kirby to surf quickly over his foes, traverse fiery areas more safely, and gain an enhanced Water Gun underwater.

One of the Challenge Stages revolves around the Water Ability.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

Water is used in conjunction with Ice to form the Icicle Lance attack.

After being absent from both Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot, Water returns in this title. The main enemy who provides this ability is Driblee, who also represents the ability as its Friend. It can be used in a number of Friend Abilities including Splash Curling and Icicle Lance. It also provides the Splash element to many other abilities. Starting from this game onward, Kirby can now cause his Geyser to rise higher by mashing the B button.

Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

Water returns in Kirby Fighters 2 as a selectable ability for Kirby. It is unlocked after attaining Fighters Rank 30. Its moveset is largely the same as in Kirby Star Allies, albeit with the omission of the "Enhanced Water Gun" move due to the lack of bodies of water in all of the game's Battle Stages.

For more precise competitive-oriented information on the Water ability in Kirby Fighters 2, see Mizuumi Wiki's page.

Other appearances[edit]

Water was intended to appear in the canceled Kirby for Nintendo GameCube game, which would have marked its first game appearance. Its design in the game resembled the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! one a lot more than the later Kirby's Return to Dream Land design.

It is Water Kirby!
— Meta Knight, in Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II

He has a slightly different crown and his body has a blue, translucent, water-like texture. Despite this, the ability functions largely the same as it would later, as Kirby uses spouts of water from his mouth to attack. Notably, the ability allows him to use the Water Gun outside of water in this instance.
