The Warp Star (also referred to as a Warpstar) is a ride-able machine in Kirby Air Ride. It is considered to be the most balanced and basic of all vehicles in the game, with no major strengths or flaws, and is the first one available for use in the Air Ride mode, with all others needing to be unlocked first.

Appearance

The Warp Star, as it appears in this game, is flat, and lays parallel with the ground; hovering only a few inches in the air. Its five pronged points are relatively round, in comparison with varied other machines. The two points nearest the rear are equipped with five small propulsion units, which appear to give the machine its forward thrust, expelling what appears to be some form of white-blue gas.

Mechanics

The Warp Star is classified as a "star". As such, it hovers above the ground during normal movement, and is capable of gliding when airborne. It also must be braked to touch floor switches and other panels.

In terms of the Warp Star's abilities, it is basically balanced in every area, being able to adequately perform all necessary functions of an Air Ride Machine. Compared to the entire roster of machines, however, it has a slightly lower-than-usual top speed of about 25 mph (40.3 km/h), and slightly better-than-usual gliding and handling capabilities.

How to Unlock

In Air Ride, this is the only machine available from the start, and does not need to be unlocked through the checklist.

In City Trial, the Warp Star can occasionally be found randomly throughout the city, and mounted like most other air ride machines. It is always available in Free Run as well.

Similar machines

  • Compact Star - Looks and behaves similarly to a Warp Star, though it trades speed and durability for much better handling.
  • Flight Warp Star - A modified Warp Star with mostly the same traits, but with significantly improved gliding ability.

In the Kirby novel series

Kirby riding the Warp Star in Kirby: Big Race in Pupupu Land!

In the Kirby novel series, the Air Ride Machine version of the Warp Star appears in Kirby: Big Race in Pupupu Land!, where it is Kirby's vehicle of choice. It is shown to be ordinary compared to the other machines, and it has no special characteristics.

In Kirby: Big Race in Pupupu Land!, the Warp Star is one of the last vehicles chosen by the racers, due to how ordinary it looks. Kirby and Waddle Dee are the last ones to choose their vehicles, and Kirby chooses the Warp Star. As he gets on, the Warp Star emits a mysterious light, showing that Kirby is a great match for it. Unlike the other contestants, Kirby is able to maneuver his machine with perfect control. Much later in the race, Mr. Frosty angrily attacks Kirby as revenge for inhaling him earlier, throwing lumps of ice at him. One lump of ice hits the Warp Star, breaking it. Mr. Frosty leaves as Kirby notices a shady man walking by, and calls for help. Meta Knight arrives too, thinking the shady man is up to no good. The shady man introduces himself as Kurron, and explains his true good intentions for investigating the race. Afterwards, a cry for help is heard in the forest, and Kirby gets on his Warp Star, only to realize that it is still broken. Kurron uses magic to instantly repair it back to how it was before. The three fly to the forest at a rapid speed.
