Stages

Vocal Volcano-1

Kirby contemplates his next move in a shallow cave in Stage 1.

Section 1: The stage begins at the foot of a steep grassy hillside. A Hot Head can be seen up the hill, followed by the fuse of a Fuse Cannon. At this point, it should be easy for Kirby to put two and two together. However, his progress is hindered by more enemies further up the hill, who will have nothing to do with his cannon antics. The cannon itself lies at the top of the slope, boxed in using star blocks and to the right, a sheer wall. The door to the next section lies just above it. However, if Kirby uses the cannon instead, he will be sent to a skybound platform with bubbles containing a Maxim Tomato and the Magic ability.

Section 2: The door leads to a slate-colored slope with the door to the next section clearly visible. A Bun is guarding it, however.

Section 3: The door leads to a shallow cave, which branches off into two paths. The upper path holds a Heavy Knight while the lower path, blocked off with a big star block and lined with spikes has a switch on the other side as well as a random item bubble. If Kirby has an ability that can protect him from the spikes, he can pass through to collect the bubble, then proceed upward into the open air. To the right, there is another spike barrier, much as the first. This one, however, leads into a wide underground space, patrolled by Flamers and Bronto Burts. At the bottom of this chamber is a Treasure Chest. There are also three distinct Kirby-icon bubbles, which can be used to create some life insurance. From there, the door to the next section can be found back outside, at the top of the hill.

Section 4: The door leads to a winding tunnel leading upward. A Cupie patrols it, which can give Kirby wings if he so desires. The path continues upward, with various layers containing patrolling enemies. From there, the path splits into two, with the right side blocked off by a switch door. Kirby will need a long-ranged attack to activate the door so he can get through before it closes again. On the other side is a barrel which contains an Energy Drink. Both paths re-converge above to open skies, and from there, some Shotzos will need to be dealt with. From there, a chest can be found behind another switch door. The drill to open it is more or less the same as before. The door to the next section can then be found up at the top from there, past a very rude Crimp.

Section 5: The door leads to an open rocky area, where a Squeaker steals the large chest visible to the right. Kirby will have to stop it before it jumps off a cliff with the valuables. If Kirby recovers the chest, Doc will appear to further harass him. The stage exit is located to the right, past more Squeakers and precipices.

Vocal Volcano-2

Kirby traverses the Bronto Burt Air Squadron in Stage 2.

Section 1: The stage begins at the foot of an active volcano. Spouts of lava and fire can be seen to the right as Kirby must progress through this hazardous terrain. Enemies will attempt to hinder Kirby's progress as the path continues through more flames. The door to the next section can be reached past a crumbling bridge.

Section 2: The door leads to a vertical climb past lava-falls and ledges with enemies set upon them. Past one lava-fall in particular is a chest. Kirby will need to reach a switch to stem the flow and get the chest. The door to the next section can then be found at the top to the right.

Section 3: The door leads to a wide cave area with a path leading right. This opens up to an exterior zone with a floor made almost entirely of lava, and Bronto Burts everywhere. Kirby will have to navigate the treacherous skies, finding brief respite on crumbling platforms in the process. The door to the next section can be found up a ladder at the right end of this ordeal.

Section 4: The door leads to a ramp leading upward to the right over the lava. Metalun will attempt to flatten Kirby here, and other enemies won't exactly help the situation. Two doors can be found here, along with a peek at another chest. One door lies at the left, while the other is at the top of the ramp to the right. Taking the left door leads to an are under the ramp, which will allow Kirby to access the chest, after pressing a few switches. The door to the right leads to the next section.

Section 5: The door leads to grotto, with a large chest in the ceiling. To get it, Kirby will need to utilize an ability that can reach through the ground. However, as soon as he touches it, the Squeaks this time led by Spinni. They will form a garrison up the hill outside the grotto to try and prevent Kirby from escaping with the loot. Unfortunately for them, Kirby is as determined as ever. The stage exit can be reached at the top of the hill, past the Squeaks' fortifications.

Kirby delivers a beating to Storo in a closed room in Stage 3.

This stage serves as the Squeak Squad equivalent to the common Tower of Mid-Bosses area seen in many Kirby titles. Kirby begins in a red cavern room with four enemies above his head, each one providing a different Copy Ability. From there, he will enter a separate room and, alternately, fight a Mid-Boss, then use their power to obtain a treasure chest in the next room up. The mid-bosses are encountered in this order:

After Storo is beaten Kirby finally escapes the wretched red dungeon to fresh air, to find the stage exit.

Kirby digs in the dirt on a hillside in Stage 4.

Section 1: The stage begins at the foot of a rocky hillside. Just to the right, inside the hill, a bubble containing Invincibility Candy can be seen. However, it is not immediately accessible, as some dirt blocks the way in. Along the path, more buried items can be seen, as enemies patrol the hillside and outlying platforms. If Kirby follows a sequence of star block platforms to the left, he can find a Gaw Gaw on an overlooking ledge. Using its ability will allow Kirby to dig through the dirt and get at the items. He should beware of the Gordo patrolling the lower deck, however. At the top of the hill, past a few more guards, the door to the next section can be found flanking an odd stone structure.

Section 2: The door leads to an interior area, glazed in bright orange and with active floes of lava to the right. A bubble containing the Ice ability can be acquired here, which can be useful for safely crossing the fiery passage ahead. After a long sweaty hallway, the door to the next section can be found, guarded by an Acchi.

Section 3: The door leads to a vertical shaft absolutely filled with lava. Kirby will have to make his way up carefully if he doesn't want to end up roasting himself like a turkey. On his way up, he will also have to contend with Parasol-wielding Waddle Doos and other meanies. Near the top, a Maxim Tomato can be seen behind a lava-fall, just out of Kirby's reach. Ah, but lest we forget our pink hero's remarkable ability to inhale! The tasty M-branded treat is as good as his! The door to the next section can be found just above this triumph.

Section 4: The door leads to a long hallway leading off to the right, patrolled on occasion by Chips. Not long in, the floor turns to a barrier, which can be removed with a switch on a suspended platform. Doing this dooms all the enemies ahead to a burning demise, but gives Kirby a cherry, so that's nice. Another option to do this appears later in the hall, but Kirby will have to catch the cherries this time, before they fall into the fire too. Along the way, a side-chamber can be found on a balcony behind some star blocks. Inside, a Gold Waddle Dee can be seen running about on a platform over a fire pit. Visible above its head is a switch. Kirby will have to avoid the temptation to push the switch for once if he wants that chest. Back on the main path, the door to the next section can be reached, after being rewarded with an Energy Drink after sending more enemies to the pit of burning despair.

Section 5: The door leads to a small room. From there, it opens to a chamber where a chest can be seen lodged away in a smaller room below. Pressing a switch will open a gate to the chest, but getting there before it closes is another matter, since it lies at the end of a hallway that is not directly accessible from Kirby's current position. To get it, Kirby will have to be red hot fast, passing through two distinct hallways full of annoying enemies before the gate closes again. From there, he can access the door to the next section.

Section 6: The door leads to a room consisting of stacked winding hallways. Immediately, Doc appears to steal the large chest, which is located a bit above Kirby's position. Doc will have to be chased down to obtain the chest. Otherwise, Kirby will have to battle him and the Squeaks in their fortress to obtain it. Past a field of fire is a series of elevators that may help Kirby reach Doc faster. From there, the stage exit can at last be reached.

Vocal Volcano-Boss: Bohboh

File:VocalVolcano-Boss.jpg
Kirby tries to cool down the fiery Bohboh.

The stage begins in a narrow rocky cavern leading upward. This eventually opens up to an exterior zone, where the Hi-Jump and Ice abilities are available in bubbles. The door to the boss's chamber is between these bubbles.

The chamber itself consists of a flat room with a small lava pool in the middle, and a floating platform above it. Bohboh appears from the background, and the fight begins. Bohboh attacks by swooping, grabbing Kirby with its claws, and 'dropping' flaming pellets on him. Apart from that, it will occasionally fly into the background to forestall the fight. Defeating it allows Kirby to collect the boss battle badge, then proceed to the next level, Ice Island.

Which to choose, which to choose?

Hub: The stage begins in a small volcanic room, with five doors to choose from, as well as three Energy Drinks which can be utilized at Kirby's discretion. The stage exit can also be seen below, but cannot be accessed from this room. Which order the doors are visited is up to Kirby.

Doors are listed in clockwise order starting at the left.

Door 1: Kirby appears in a hall full of blocks and lava floes, with some flame geysers bursting. Above Kirby's head, but inaccessible from his location is a bubble with the Metal ability inside it. As Kirby progresses to the right, he will need to be careful not to fall into the lava, as his path will crumble under his feet. From there, he'll have to head back left across another hazardous walkway, this time with fire shooting from above. After dispatching an Acchi, Kirby can acquire the bubble and return to the hub.

Door 2: This area consists of tunnels blocked off by pegs. Kirby will need an appropriate ability to progress through this area. There are many paths to take, leading to various treasures. Others lead to peril, so Kirby should watch where he treads. At the bottom right is a barrel containing a chest. From there, Kirby can acquire a bubble containing the Cupid ability before returning to the hub.

Door 3: This area consists of a series of small interconnected rooms and thin hallways filled with fire. Kirby will need some way to extinguish or otherwise bypass the flames before he can move forward. From there, it's a gauntlet through multiple fire pillars, culminating in retrieving a chest from a lava lake. On the way back down, Kirby can nab a bubble containing the Hammer ability.

Door 4: This area consists of two hallways lain on top of each-other. The large chest can be seen on the upper hall, but Spinni appears immediately to try and steal it. Kirby will have to wrestle it from her, of course, but he should watch out for flame pillars and Sparkies in the process. After that is done, Kirby can return to the main hub by means of the door to the right. However, this will place him in the small chamber below with the stage exit meaning that this is the last room Kirby can visit before completing the stage.

Door 5: This area is defined as a winding hallway, with a 1Up and Ice ability bubble lying on the other side of a switch gate the Kirby will need to be speedy to reach. In the process, he will also need to dodge a few flames. After obtaining the items, Kirby can return directly to the hub through the door he came in.
