Patroller

Hey, Gigi! You've been making a lot of helpful edits lately, so how would you like to become a patroller? As a patroller, you'll be able to mark edits as patrolled, and also mark possible featurement candidates as Good. You'll also be treated to a purple username on Special:RecentChanges and a shiny gold medal on your userpage. Is this something you're interested in? --YFJ (talk · edits) 18:38, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Oh, yes, sure thing! I would love to! :) Gigi (talk) 19:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
All right then! You are now a patroller! Purple names and gold medals coming shortly! You also should have access to the staff chat on Shiver Star; let me know if you don't. --YFJ (talk · edits) 19:19, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! And it looks like I don't have access to that chat as of right now, or I can't find it. Gigi (talk) 19:30, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

OGG versus OGA

Hello

While OGG is a possible format for the file itself, it is discouaged by the designer of OGG itself--Xiph.org. Most easily sourced (and horribly formatted) from the RFC,

While this document does redefine the earlier definition of
application/ogg, this media type will continue to embrace the widest
net possible of content with the video/ogg and audio/ogg types being
smaller subsets of it. However, the video/ogg and audio/ogg types
take precedence in a subset of the usages, specifically when serving
multimedia content that is not complex enough to warrant the use of
application/ogg. Following this line of thought, the audio/ogg type
is an even smaller subset within video/ogg, as it is not intended to
  refer to visual content.
As such, the application/ogg type is the recommended choice to serve
content aimed at scientific and other applications that require
various multiplexed signals or streams of continuous data, with or
without scriptable control of content. For bitstreams containing
visual, timed text, and any other type of material that requires a
visual interface, but that is not complex enough to warrant serving
under application/ogg, the video/ogg type is recommended. In
situations where the Ogg bitstream predominantly contains audio data
(lyrics, metadata, or cover art notwithstanding), it is recommended
  to use the audio/ogg type.

In short, despite the fact that ogg can be used as a name, it has been redefined and requested to become more specific in its naming. OGG should generally, if possible, be formatted as OGA or OGV where appropriate. This is essentially done as a practicality and formality. For a small history, I have a small section on here on my user page. I can give more details if required, but I strongly suggest that OGA be used as the main extension furthermore. Trig - (talk) 21:25, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I will be honest, I personally started using OGG for audio formats because pretty much all audio files here use that, and I wasn't aware of its implications. Furthermore, I reverted your two changes mostly for consistency, not because I disagree: if OGA is a better choice for audio, it better be used for all audio files that current use OGG, not just a couple.
I will forward this to the rest of the staff to see what they think too, but I don't see why anyone would be against the change. Then we can hopefully change all current audio files from OGG to OGA and encourage people to use it in the future instead. Regardless, I'll keep you updated. Gigi (talk) 00:09, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Since there's still approximately 9 japanese file names I'd like to move, should I wait until OGA is determined, or go ahead and move them to english name (thing).oga? If you need more descriptions, feel free to ask on here or on discord. Thanks! Trig - (talk) 01:15, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Sandbox

If I'm not mistaken, I can create sandbox by simply creating page with User:Superbound/Sandbox, right? (asking because i'm not so sure) Superbound (talk) 16:14, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be a subpage of your userpage, and they can be named anything (but of course follow the policy). —Viperision (talk) 16:19, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! Superbound (talk) 16:21, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Yup yup, as Viperision said. In fact, thanks for giving this quick answer, heh. Gigi (talk) 16:43, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

The game is referred to without a colon symbol during the credits of New Challenge Stages, as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PKLvVgauusOwencrazyboy17 (talk) 19:07, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Well then the whole wiki is using the wrong name. I was adding those because that's the name of the article and how every mention of it I've seen in the wiki has been. Personally, I don't care much if it has a colon or not, but I do want consistency. Gigi (talk) 19:11, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Can also confirm through the manual that it's consistently "Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition" with no colon. StrawberryChan (talk) 21:04, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Delete my account

Hi I want to delete my account cause I do not longer need an account —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frisky Girl (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments by typing ~~~~!

Greetings. We do not typically delete accounts here on WiKirby, but we can make this account inaccessible by permablocking it, so nobody can use it again. Is this what you want? --Samwell (talk) 18:40, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
I will just do a Giveway —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frisky Girl (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments by typing ~~~~!
We would not allow such a thing, nor would it matter, since accounts are free. If you do not want to be here anymore, you could either just leave it, or we will block it. Up to you. --Samwell (talk) 19:01, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
I will just stay here since I am a Kirby fan —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frisky Girl (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments by typing ~~~~!
Alright. Just one thing though. You seem to be using the unsigned template I put on your first post to sign your comments. This is not necessary. All you have to do to sign your comment is to type four tildes in a row at the end of your post, like this → ~~~~. --Samwell (talk) 19:12, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
I just do not know how to sign comments Frisky Girl (talk)14:15, 25 December 2020 (Canadian hour)
Well now you do, since you just did it. Cheers. --Samwell (talk) 19:16, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

Colored Names

Hi. I was wondering how to get a different colored or different fonted signatures. Is it solely for staff? Thank you. Kawasaki'sBiggestFan (talk) 00:16, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

This is not restricted to staff. There's a bit of a technical side to this, but if you look on my own signature code, you might get a general idea of how to do it. Mainly, for the font I use <span style="font family: 'Delfino'"> and for the color, I use <span style="color: #0a0">. You can put another font in the place of "Delfino" on the first tag, and the three digits following the # on the second tag represent the hex code for a color (in my case, lime), and you can look up the hex code for the color you want and replace the digits with those. Hope this helps! --YFJ (talk · edits) 00:27, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

How to create User Page

Hey Gigi, how do I get permission to edit my user page?

Hey Gigi, how do I get permission to edit my user page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RedsterTheGamer (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments by typing ~~~~!

Hey there. I'm not Gigi, but to create your user page, you have to make five edits to the wiki and have an account for 24 hours first. The latter's already done, but you'll be good to go if you make one more edit to the wiki.
Also, please remember to always sign your comments by typing ~~~~. -- Jellytost (talk) 04:16, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
You need to be autoconfirmed to create pages, which is 1 day + 5 edits. So you just need one more edit on any page to create your userpage. –Wiz (talk · edits) 04:17, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Autopatrolled status

Hello Gigi.

So, what exactly is the autopatrolled status? How can I get it? Have I already shown good editing spirit enough to be autopatrolled? Maybe even a patroller rank would be too high, but is it possible that I can be autopatrolled? I mean, like, you can be autopatrolled on the first day of editing, and my account is 6 months now. Is being an autopatrolled user good for me or too high? If I cannot earn it yet, I understand, but please just explain in good detail what an autopatrolled user can do compared to autoconfirmed ones. Thanks!

Altendo 03:05, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Hoy. I am not Gigi, but I am also a bureaucrat, and I regularly handle promotions to Autopatrol, so allow me to answer your question.
Fundamentally, being in Autopatrol means that your edits are automatically marked as "Patrolled" by the wiki, which means that we no longer need to manually patrol them. To "patrol" an edit means to confirm that you have seen an edit and approve it, which is the primary responsibility of Patrollers and above. As such, when a user has all their edits patrolled automatically, it implies that they have shown consistent good faith in editing, and we trust such users to that extent. Additionally, here on WiKirby specifically, Autopatrol users are given permission to vote on proposals that affect wiki policy, and as you might imagine, are the first step up WiKirby's Cursus Honorum, with the following steps being Patroller, Moderator, Administrator, and finally Bureaucrat.
I've had a look at your editing history, and seen that you've recently joined the Discord as well, and I think you are well on your way to attaining Autopatrol status. However, I come from a school that discourages people from asking for promotions regarding volunteer work, as it might suggest a little too much zeal in gaining a higher rank for its own sake, rather than for the sake of the community. As such, I request that you exhibit patience, and make editing and engaging with the community in an organic matter to be your main priorities. If you do well in these areas, then future ranks will become open to you sooner or later as a result.
I hope this answers your question. I'll see you around the wiki. --Samwell (talk) 03:43, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the info! Altendo 03:46, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

What I MEANT was...

Just letting you know, when I was talking about the Star Rod in Smash Bros., it's on the Smash 4 page in the Items section. That fact only applies to Melee, so really the Brawl pages section on the Star Rod is ALSO incorrect. ',: | --Marx4Smash (talk) 00:43, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

By the way, if anyone finds any other errors on the Smash Bros. pages (or ANY page in general), let me or Gigi know so we can discuss changing it.--Marx4Smash (talk) 00:50, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

You are free to correct those pages then like I suggested. I'm not sure if I wasn't clear, so let me explain another way: you are free to edit the wiki and add and correct information, however it's possible someone may edit what you added after with their own additions and corrections. A wiki is the effort of multiple people. Discussions happen if there is a disagreement over edits of two users, or if a user isn't sure about something to add to a page, otherwise you're free to go ahead and edit. Use your best judgement, and I'm sure it will work. And if not, don't worry, the other editors, myself included, are here to help you, and the wiki as a whole. - Gigi (talkedits) 01:05, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Cool.--Marx4Smash (talk) 13:13, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Rename request

Hi Gigi, may you rename me to "User:Evie (Torchickens)" please? My name is outdated and I've only really continued to use the name "User:Chickasaurus" in the Pokémon community because of my Pokémon YouTube channel where people know me as that. Thanks in advance! ^^ Evie (User:Chickasaurus) (talk) 21:00, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Of course, and done. Enjoy your new name! - Gigi (talkedits) 22:45, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Meme pages

hi im new here, do you think i could make pages for kirby memes, (kirbo, kirb) i dont know if it is allowed, so please respond and tell me also it wont let me make userpage i dont know if im supposed to tho SpeedOfKirb38000 (talk) 15:48, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi! First, welcome to the wiki. Second, we don't cover fan content in the wiki, only official content, so we don't have any meme pages and they shouldn't be created. Lastly, to create your userpage, you need to first get autoconfirmed, which you can become once you make 5 edits and are registered for 24 hours. If you want, you can find lots of guides here to help you start editing. Hope that helps! - Gigi (talkedits) 16:52, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Help with logging in

I'm the one that had requested the account for User:MetaKnightmare666 but the password is saying it's wrong and i'm not getting a password reset mail, please help if you can 2600:1700:DD0:1480:7D81:CF:E202:EDA5 00:08, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not Gigi, but I am also a bureaucrat. I've gone ahead and sent a manual password reset request to your email. Let me know if you still have trouble or if the email doesn't arrive. --Samwell (talk) 00:48, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Target

hi its me again! speedofkirb38000 i can't find any work to do (that i can do im on tablet) andrecently some targets have been making the litleballs in fron of the store in to kirbys! i would like to make a page on target talking about the event and i dont have permission to make the page, could you make it for me and then i fill it in SpeedOfKirb38000 (talk) 17:53, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for not replying earlier, I was on a break to avoid Forgotten Land spoilers so I wasn't checking the wiki until recently. I see that you are now autoconfirmed and thus can create pages, but as advice, please keep our article creation policy in mind when creating new pages. As an example, a "Target" page doesn't make sense for this wiki, because it's not directly related to Kirby, but we could certainly use some sort of "Real life events" page to document them all. Since you are new to the wiki, I would advise to ask first around too before creating a page that is not currently in our wanted pages page to see if the community at large thinks it's worth creating. - Gigi (talkedits) 14:12, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

My username.

Hi. I sorta noticed that my username is a bit of a mouthful, so do you think you could change it? I heard mods can do that so i would like you to change it to Shiny_Champion. Thanks! SpeedOfKirb38000 (talk) 14:08, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello. Just confirm me again that the exact spelling of "Shiny_Champion" is what you wish for your username, and I can change it for you. - Gigi (talkedits) 14:23, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
