- This article is about the song from Kirby's Return to Dream Land. For the land of the dead mentioned in Kirby Star Allies and related to Morpho Knight, see Yomi.
"Underworld" is the puzzle theme for Halcandra in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]
Composition[edit]
"Underworld" is a somewhat eerie piece in natural B minor and 4/4. It begins with a quiet reverberated string of notes that set the tone without forming into a clearly defined melody. This set of notes repeats several times with many additional effects interjecting. The lower synthetic noises take over by the end with less discernable pitches. After this, a transitional section begins, with a soft but clear phrase from "Mid-Boss Battle", where the noises do not cease. This soon gives way to the second section, where the motif from "Exploring the Cave" and "The Birthplace of Steel" plays in B minor. The original string of notes serves as a counterpoint and reaches high registers. Then, the "Exploring the Cave" motif gains a more percussive attack, making it sound bright relative to the rest of the piece. As another transition, "Mid-Boss Battle" continues together with the first section's phrase, still at a high pitch. The first section appears to repeat with a significant increase in noise effects. The track loops properly after this.
