Tropic Woods, titled Unfriendly Fronds, is a boss in the Kirby series, making its debut in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is a tropical spin-off of the Whispy Woods family, resembling both a palm tree and a pineapple with its bulbous trunk and dense foliage. It also has a small soul patch beard made of grass-like fibers under its mouth. Some of its abilities include using its roots to entrap Kirby and dropping a mesh fence in front of its face for protection.
Tropic Woods appears as the boss of Everbay Coast, being fought in the stage The Tropical Terror. As might be expected for a plant, and as confirmed by Shinya Kumazaki in the developer interview for Kirby and the Forgotten Land in the June 2022 issue of Nintendo Dream Magazine, Tropic Woods is not a member of the Beast Pack, "...although it is acquainted with [them]..."[1] As such, unlike other bosses, Tropic Woods is the only end-of-level boss to not be refought in the Redgar Forbidden Lands.
Tropic Woods is also faced in the Colosseum's Meta Knight Cup and The Ultimate Cup. It has a stronger variant in the isolated isles of Forgo Dreams and The Ultimate Cup Z called Phantom Tropic Woods.
AttacksEdit
Being a relative of Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods is a largely stationary boss (being only able to swivel its face towards its target), and as such, its attacks mainly consist of throwing out projectiles and reaching through the ground with its roots. Much like Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods sheds a single tear after it is defeated.
Tropic Woods has 1,350 HP in The Tropical Terror and 945 HP at the Colosseum. It transitions to the second phase once its HP is 50% or less and takes 0.8× damage during the entire second phase. It also takes 0.2× damage when roaring at the start of the battle and during the transition to phase 2.[2]

Tropic Woods sends out two large snaking roots that tunnel through the earth and fence Kirby in, creating Dropped Stars whenever they pierce the ground. These can be stood on after they stop or destroyed by attacking them to satisfy a mission objective in the main boss stage. If not destroyed, they will eventually be withdrawn. | |||
