— Tokkori

Tokkori is a small talking bird and a supporting character in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. He is a yellow parakeet that lives in a nest in a tree near Kirby's House, though he can often be seen sleeping in Kirby's bed instead. He first appears in Episode 1: Kirby Comes to Cappy Town, though he does not get very much development as a character until Episode 70: Buccaneer Birdy. Tokkori is generally portrayed as having a quarrelsome personality, and has difficulty getting along with anyone else, but is ultimately not Kirby's enemy, and often helps him and Tiff out with their various troubles.

Appearance[edit]

Tokkori is a small bird with yellow feathers, a dark purple beak, and red cheek "scratches". His legs are orange and his eyes are small and beady, though he has a very pronounced brow area which gives him a perpetually cranky look. He tends to flutter around quickly, and can stop and start almost instantaneously.

Personality[edit]

Tokkori has a cantankerous personality, is short-tempered, and is generally selfish. He puts on a strong desire to be left alone to live a hermit's life-style, but this appears to be a deception, as he constantly bugs others with his sarcastic and jeering remarks. Much of this behavior is directed toward Kirby in particular, as the two are housemates. Despise this abrasiveness, however, Tokkori does care about Kirby's safety, and can generally be expected to do the right thing.

In Buccaneer Birdy, Tokkori is confused to be the descendant of Lord James Coleet: a small yellow cockatoo who used to belong to the dread pirate Captain Kick. In the Japanese version, it is specifically explained that Tokkori hatched an orphan and never knew his parents, which is surmised to explain his tendency to live as a hermit and his difficulty getting along with others.

In the English dub, Tokkori speaks with an American southern accent, and his lines are often accompanied by the sound of a fiddle.

Role in Kirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]

Despite Tokkori's disagreeable personality, he is generally a help to Kirby and Tiff, with his most useful trait being his ability to scout and collect information.

Tokkori's first proper role in Kirby: Right Back at Ya! comes in A Blockbuster Battle, where King Dedede tries to convince Tokkori to stop Kirby and his friends from finding him a home, which Tokkori initially agrees to. After King Dedede is proven to be untrustworthy, however, Tokkori switches sides and roots for Kirby when he battles and eventually defeats Blocky. From that point on, after Kirby's proper house is established, he and Tokkori effectively become housemates, though the living situation is often made more difficult by Tokkori's rough attitude. Despite how poorly Tokkori sometimes treats Kirby, Kirby seldom minds, often preferring to sleep in Tokkori's nest outside while the yellow bird uses Kirby's intended bed.

In most episodes, Tokkori plays a small, though often critical role in helping Kirby and Tiff by scouting and collecting information and rumors, even if inadvertently. Sometimes Tokkori's antics put Kirby in danger or otherwise hinder his efforts, but Tokkori never ultimately means to do the pink Star Warrior harm. When Tokkori missteps, Tiff is usually the first to tell him off or otherwise punish him for it. Despite the relationship often being difficult, Tokkori ultimately turns into one of Kirby's most faithful allies, and accompanies him and Meta Knight on the Halberd to go and attack eNeMeE's Fortress in the series finale.
