In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, the objective of the Arena is to defeat all the bosses from Spring Breeze, Dyna Blade, The Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta Knight, and Milky Way Wishes. To make this task easier, Kirby is given five Maxim Tomatoes and five regular tomatoes to replenish his health, but he can only do so between boss battles. He is also given his pick of every normal ability in the game at the beginning, and may choose between two Copy Pedestals in between fights. This is needed to unlock The True Arena. In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, the objective of the Arena is to defeat all the bosses from Spring Breeze, Dyna Blade, The Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta Knight, and Milky Way Wishes. At the beginning of the mode Kirby starts in a special room which contains Copy Essences for every regular Copy Ability in the game, as well as a Warp Star to take him to the first battle. In between battles Kirby will be taken to a rest area that contains five Maxim Tomatoes for Kirby to replenish his health should it be depleted, two randomly-determined Copy Essences for Kirby to change his ability and a Warp Star to take him to the next battle.

When Kirby eats a Maxim Tomato in the original Super Star it will simply be gone, but in Super Star Ultra the Maxim Tomato will be replaced with a regular tomato (which does not heal as much health) the next time Kirby visits the rest area.

Beating The Arena once is necessary to unlock the Sound Test in the original and The True Arena in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, The Arena is unlocked after completing Story Mode. Like the previous Arena, all of the bosses are encountered in a random order, except Lor & Magolor, Magolor, and Magolor's second form are fought last in that order. Completing this mode the first time allows player 1 to be King Dedede, Meta Knight or Bandana Waddle Dee in replays of The Arena.

The following bosses are encountered in The Arena in both Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe:

This mode isn't actually called "The Arena" in the Japanese and Korean versions of the game - instead, it is named かちぬきボスバトル (Boss Battle Tournament) and 보스와 정면승부 (Head-to-Head Boss Battles), respectively. "Boss Battle Tournament" is the Japanese name for Boss Endurance in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, and Kirby: Squeak Squad. "Head-to-Head Boss Battles", likewise, is used to refer to Boss Endurance in the Korean version of Kirby: Squeak Squad. By extension, the same changes apply to The True Arena.

Trivia
*In the Japanese and Korean versions of the series, the descriptions for The Arena consistently give Kirby the alias of The Pink Demon (ピンクの悪魔 / 핑크색 악마). In English, this has been variously translated as "the Pink Wonder", "the pink terror", "the pink hero", and "the mighty pink puffball". Kirby: Planet Robobot is the first game where the title is translated directly from the original phrase.
**This is also seen in the Super Smash Bros. series as Kirby's title on the Boxing Ring stage. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it is translated as "The Pink Puffball" in North American English and "Gritty in Pink" in British English, but it is translated as "The Pink Demon" in both English versions of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
**Commentator Waddle Dee also refers to Kirby with the moniker "The Pink Demon" in the Colosseum of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
*It has been a tradition in each game that features The Arena for the Maxim Tomatoes to be replaced with regular Tomatoes after being collected, and for The True Arena (or equivalent difficulty) to feature regular Tomatoes exclusively. In reference to this, Tomatoes only appear in the Colosseum in Kirby and the Forgotten Land — they don't appear in the regular stages.
*In Kirby Super Star, King Dedede can be seen sitting on a throne in the background of The Arena.
*In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe, the timer disappears during the final boss fight in The Arena and The True Arena. This also applies to The Ultimate Choice starting with the Infernal Crisis difficulty in Kirby Star Allies and the Colosseum in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

This article is about the Sub-Game that has appeared in many games since Kirby Super Star. For rooms found in Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, see Arena (Kirby's Adventure).

The Arena is a Sub-Game debuting in Kirby Super Star, where the requirement is to the defeat the Main Game bosses and mid-bosses encountered in the title it appears in, with a single life, with limited health benefits. It is similar to Boss Endurance modes, but is generally given more importance, and is always required for 100% completion of the game.

In later titles, completing this mode would unlock The True Arena, which is a similar concept, but instead pits Kirby against all the Extra Mode bosses.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Kirby fighting Wham Bam Rock in Kirby Super Star Ultra's The Arena.

Bosses[edit]

The following is a list of the bosses encountered. The bosses are fought in a random order, with the exception of Marx, who is always last.

— Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe unlock quote

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

The Arena title screen in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

The Arena in Kirby: Triple Deluxe is largely the same as the previous two. This time however, treasure chests containing keychains will appear after battles 2, 5, 8 and 9 (battles 2 and 5 offer one keychain, battle 8 offers two and battle 9 offers three). Players can also receive one Maxim Tomato inside an Assist Star that can be used mid-battle. The first seven bosses are fought randomly, while the last three fights are in a set order, like in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

The Arena title screen in Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Unlike in previous installments, all the bosses and mid-bosses are fought in a set order. Rather than having a limited amount of healing items, an Assist Star is given after each round, with the contents being a Maxim Tomato after Clanky Woods, Mecha Knight, and President Haltmann, an Energy Drink after Mecha Knight+ and a cherry after every other round. Stickers are also provided after the aforementioned bosses, with one sticker after rounds 1, 5 and 9 and two stickers after round 10.

The following bosses are fought in The Arena in this order:

 1. Clanky Woods
 2. Holo Defense API
 3. Susie
 4. Mid-Boss All Stars 1: Kibble Blade, Blocky, King Doo, Dubior
 5. Mecha Knight
 6. Dedede Clone & Dedede Clones & D3
 7. C.O.G.S.
 8. Mid-Boss All Stars 2: Security Force, Miasmoros, Bonkers, Telepathos
 9. Mecha Knight+
 10. President Haltmann
 11. Star Dream: The final segment where Kirby drills through Star Dream using the Robobot Armor's Final Screw Mode is skipped.

Trivia[edit]

 • In the Japanese and Korean versions of the series, the descriptions for The Arena consistently give Kirby the alias of The Pink Demon (ピンクの悪魔あくま / 핑크색 악마). In English, this has been variously translated as "the Pink Wonder", "the pink terror", "the pink hero", and "the mighty pink puffball". Kirby: Planet Robobot is the first game where the title is translated directly from the original phrase.
 • It has been a tradition in each game that features The Arena for the Maxim Tomatoes to be replaced with regular Tomatoes after being collected, and for The True Arena (or equivalent difficulty) to feature regular Tomatoes exclusively. In reference to this, Tomatoes only appear in the Colosseum in Kirby and the Forgotten Land — they don't appear in the regular stages.
 • In Kirby Super Star, King Dedede can be seen sitting on a throne in the background of The Arena.
 • In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe, the timer disappears during the final boss fight in The Arena and The True Arena. This also applies to The Ultimate Choice starting with the Infernal Crisis difficulty in Kirby Star Allies and the Colosseum in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
